Dilly's Piggies
Teenage Guinea Pig
My 5 year old sow is having surgery tomorrow morning to remove a lump from just below her right nipple, until then we are unclear as to what exactly this growth is, whether it's a tumor, cyst or abscess.
I've been gathering as much information as possible, I have post op care covered and everything is already set up for her, but the one thing I am still not 100% clear on, is what medications I should be asking the vet for. I've read on guinealynx already and there are lots of drugs it says I should give her, it seems like a lot to me, should I really be asking for/giving her that many drugs? Does she actually NEED all of these? It's very confusing for me. It says I should get Reglan/(metoclopramide) - for gut motility, Tramadol or Butorphanol - as a narcotic, Metacam - as an NSAID, and Baytril/Bactrim as an antibiotic for underbelly incisions, it also states that Baytril is harder on their systems and Bactrim is preferred, but if I'm given Baytril I should ask for a probiotic to use in conjunction?
I am familiar with Metacam and Baytril, and I'm sure she will get these drugs anyway, but the other drugs I've never used or even heard of before. Critical care is already at the top of my list to ask for, she will be hand fed as soon as she gets home, it's pain management I need confirmation with. I want to make sure I ask the vet for the RIGHT necessary drugs, I don't want to ask for anything unnecessary.
