What on earth do parents teach their kids these days...?

I was in Pets at Home on Saturday picking up some hay (and ended up coming home with £200 worth of new hutches, oops) and a little boy was watching the guinea pigs. He asked his mum "What's that, mummy?" and she replied "It's a guinea pig, it's like a small rabbit" I had to stop myself from laughing/correcting her! :x
And at work yesterday, our giant bunny Snoopatron was out with our public relations team, so we took the opportunity of a spare pen and I put our 3 elderly sows in his pen, to give them a change from their hutch. There is a sign at the back of Snoops pen saying "Hello my name is Snoopatron, and I am a giant papillon rabbit"
A man came up to me and said "That's not really a giant rabbit, is it?" pointing at Bubbles the guinea pig...rolleyes
Some people!
 
Hehe i do wonder whats this world coming to some days, it was like the other week I went with my OH to visit our local park which has an animal section with deer, rabbits, ponies and llamas. A kid asked his mum 'whats that?' pointing to the llama, and his mum replied 'A giant sheep i think' - doh!
 
If anyone's been watching Young Dumb and Living Off Mum on BBC3 you wouldn't be so surprised at how little animal knowledge people seem to have these days. One boy thought elephants ate meat and another asked if humans were mammals or carnivores rolleyes

And here was me getting hot under the collar at zoos when parents tell their kids that gorillas are monkeys. Some people just have no clue.

Wow.

My nephew calls piggies...Guinea Rabbits but he is only 3 and it is kinda cute but come on, everyone should generally know the difference between "normal" pets.
That being said...I've heard several people call a Guinea Pig a Hamster {:|

It does concern me...Honestly.

I don't expect everyone to be animal savvy but people should be able to tell the difference between house-hold pets.
That's like saying a Dog is a large cat... @)

It is pretty funny, though.
 
Well my assistant at work keeps asking me how the gerbils are! It doesn't matter how many times I correct her she still gets it wrong. She's even met them so knows how big they are!
 
Yeah, the kids at work always say "can I hold a hamster?" I normally just say "we don't have hamsters" Which confuses them!
 
I asked one of my neighbours if he would feed my guinea pigs if I was ever called away in an emergency/ rushed into hospital until I could sort something out. He said yes and came in to meet the girls. He took one look and said 'Wow, they're bigger than I thought. They've got a lot of meat on them, no wonder some people eat them.' :(

... I'll be making other arrangements. :{
