Just for thought, lets tell everyone the key points of our year with our piggies! Please leave your story in a reply.
2006
Feb 2006I only became a piggy owner feb 2006, but i'd been planning it since November 2005....that was the most longest wait ever! When i got my piggies, Coco [teddie 6 weeks old brown and white markings] and biscuit [white crested 10 week old and ginger coat] they lived in a small 3 story hutch.

March 2006 Coco became my best friend! She slept on my lap, while biscuit had a 'bag nappy' i invented round her so she'd happily toddle along pooing as much as she pleased for our extra absorbing tissues!

Junefirst run, i was so proud and a little bit scared, my little tiny coco and biscuit ran straight out!

Juneruns got more recent, biscuit found the tree, and has became a hot spot for all my piggies!
JulyWe got smidge! from pets at home, oh what a character! [rex 8 weeks old mainly: black} and brown andwhite coat]
Coco didnt like him much, shame, he was so cute!

Augustthe new hutch arrived, 3 storey piggiy mansion, they were so pleased with me!

AugustCoco got ill, i was so worried but my nasty mother (who i hate and dont talk 2) would rather have bought wine than took her to the vets.

AugustCoco left for the breeders, we'd knew she had lovely kids, and a big enough hutch too! Their the breeder found out she was ill and took care of her.

SeptemberSad news arrived, a day later, over night Coco passed away, 8 months old. i was in tears for 2 months!

Septembervisited breeders and got fluffly! [7 week old texel mainly ginger with white dot next to her nose] and smidge and her were instantly friends.

SeptemberCaught smidge humping fluflly, and to later investigation found out the once female smidge had turned into a man!

SeptemberTo keep smidge company, we got him a friend called georgy, who was just turned 6 weeks, i'd seen him before 4 weeks after dropping off Coco to the breeders. [6 week old abby mainly white, with brown and black] and smidge seemed more interested in humping Georgy

September Biscuit got fat and now we knew of smidges gender was a big shock, we took biscuit to the vets who said she was pregaunt so we went up to pets at home and got a hutch and some goodies for biccy!

October Smidge was netured. And the lad who was going crazy of hutch fever and i noticed him talkin to the stairs was now a
friendly sociable piggy!

October Biscuit got fatter, and fluffly and georgy totally bonded! awww!

November Biscuit's pregnauncy was a false alarm ! and went in with her pals agen!

December Sold 3 storey hutch. Still have 2 storey 3 foot and 3 foot one storey.

December Biscuits birthday! Happy bday my baby, your 1!

December Went in the kitchen run! Its so fun to watch georgy run on his lil feet! ;D

[size=16pt]This year has been a very busy year for me with piggy problems and i cant wait for our first cirmbo! though coco wont be their, and will never get a christmas. i no she'll be in all our hearts x

Quite a short story compared to yours.....!

I have had piggys for years but due to them all growing old and passing on, at the start of 2006, I was left with one - Meeka.

IMG026.jpg

Sept 06 - Meeka passed away after losing her battle with cancer (on the picture above you can see her tumour on the left)...... I vowed I was going to have no more ;)

2 days later I came home with Tia & Tilly :D The silence of not having wheeking piggys greet me just broke my heart and made me miss Meeka much more. They are not a replacement for her but they have helped! I joined this forum - immediatly stopped using woodshavings and decided that no more of my animals would come from pet shops!

Nov 06 - I adopted my first ever rescue animal. Trixie came from Cornflower Cavies (starshine) and has settled in really well.

I started 2006 with two piggies (Lily and Marvin) and a rabbit (Jam).

I rehomed Jam in August 2006 because I wanted him to spend his last years with bunny company, as I wasnt planning on getting another rabbit. I also got a third guinea pig, Milka.

In September, only a week or so after rehoming Jam, he passed away. Old age, he was 8 already :'(
At the end of September, Lily became very ill.

On the 1st of October, Lily died at the CCT :'(. on the 12th of October, Pebbles moved in with us, a little rescue piggy.
She left us very soon after only 11 days :'(

On the 2nd of November, Mabel moved in with us. Mid-November, Marvin got ill - pneumonia. He died on the night from the 16th to the 17th.

On the 10th of December, we got a new boar, Uther.

We had the most awful year ever, with four pets leaving us, and I can just pray that 2007 is going to be kinder.
Our constellation Uther Milka Mabel works very well so far, and I am hoping to see my little group happy and healthy for many years to come :)

I know :(

I have to say though Natalie - one of the most important things is that you can provide vet care for your piggy.
If you cant afford it because you are too young and only get some pocket money, then I would def. check with my parents BEFORE getting the piggies, if THEY are willing to pay for vet treatment. If they dont want to do this - then dont get guinea pigs.

Its not fair on the piggies. I am just saying this as you are saving up your money right now to get a bigger dog kennel hutch thingy, and you are talking about taking more guinea pigs in - I would NOT do this, if your mum doesnt even want to pay for the vets for your existing pets!

Its sad, but until you convince her that animals deserve a doctor just like humans, or until you are older and earn your own money, I think those piggies would be better off with someone else...

No offence meant.

We started the year with our two lovely piggy-brothers, Sammy and Snug.
As they passed their 4th birthday in the spring, we noticed that both boys were showing signs of being 'not as young as they used to be' - spending more of their floor time sitting and less running about. In April, Sammy developed an impacted bum  ::)  During early summer, Snug seemed to be showing some signs of ageing - eating less, sleeping more, but was otherwise quite happy.
Sadly, while we were away on holiday, he died during the night. My parents were piggy-sitting and had the horrible job of telling me one of my beloved piggies had died. :'(
Following his brother's death, Sammy seemed very lethargic. He was eating normally and seemed to like coming out for cuddles, but we could not get him to do any exercise - he just sat.
We decided a new friend was needed but, as I've said elsewhere, as soon as I told local rescues that he was a full boar, they didn't want to know.
Via the internet, I discovered RSPCA Medway West, over an hour's drive away, and they had a young adult boar for re-homing.
After slow and careful introduction, Sammy and his new companion Rupert became good friends.
Having a younger friend to run about with has had a great rejuvenating effect on Sammy - he is noticeably more active and looks fitter. When we first saw him and Roo together, poor Sam looked quite elderly by comparison, but he has really livened up during the months they've been together.

Here's hoping they have many more months (years?) together before Sammy goes to re-join his brother.

no offence taken....i dont no what happened to my mum, she just changed. normally she didnt mind popping them over to the vets. but when her and my dad started divorcing, money became her life, money, money, money!
she wouldnt buy me new clothes so some of the summer hols i was walking round in my nighties  >:(
since my mum left though, sadly, not before we lost coco they all seemed 2 be constantly at the vets. my dad didnt mind, as long as they were ok. Our last trip was to get their nails done, and smidges check up after his neturing. i no u r not offending me so dont worry. i just didnt tell all the story. luckily enough, my piggies dont seem to have any problems, georgy getting a bit fat though! hes going to be netured in the new year. and fluffly needs a hair cut.

nice 2 hear about every1s piggies years! keep um coming! lol

its ok adonba, < (dont no if i spelt it right sorry) but my mum dont live with us anymore, its a long story :( and its kinda upsetting.
i hate her so much for wat she did to coco.
i kept telling her shes sick and my mum went 'no shes not, theres always something wrong with your animals, I'm going to get rid of them all' so i took help from the breeder we got coco from. but by then it was too late, the pnemonia had settled on her chest. my dad couldnt afford it either he'd been sending out divorce letters 2 my mum which cost £300 and at the mo he werent @ work. and my mum kept rejecting them which cost more.

how evil could she get:(

Goodness we have all been through so much.

<group hug>

I am facing my first pigless Christmas in 6

On 12th July at 4.04pm
my darling Billie left a huge guinea pig shaped hole in my life after giving up his fight with diseased teeth.

I felt as though someone had stuck an apple core through my heart for ages, but it is slowly healing.

Nov/Dec 05. I lost Brownie and Ginge.

Jan 06 start the year with Flopsey Bunny.

July 06 Got my two boys Pig and Spike, they had great fun in the summer. I was soo worried they'd get to hot, but they were fine. They had fun playing with Flopsey and would follow him around the Run.

Sep 06 Got Mog, our cat that had been a stray for months at my OH's work. She likes humans, but tries to be a bit unfriendly with the other furrys. So we either keep them apart, or keep a very close eye on her!

Nov 06. My boys got sick. Dodgy food we believe. Both passed away, Pig first, Spike the day after.

Dec 06. Heard a friend has two guineas she took from someone through fear they'll be neglected but didn't want them. OH said we'd have them. Went and picked them up the next day. Two girls about 5 months old. Now named Nutmeg and Grissom.

Plans for new year, get a (spayed) GF for Flopsey. Renovate the cages first though. Get more guineas. Get a new job, start my ploice training. Try and have another baby. Gona be a busy year ahead for me!
