I have just wrote an obit for poor Ordell :'( ( http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=13458.0 ) and i am still devestated at losing him but at the same time i have concerns for his poor brother Louis. as far as i know the pair of them are brothers and have been together since birth or atleast close to if they actually only came together to be sold in a pet shop. they had an incredible bond-when i had Bill and Budd i never saw them cuddled up or anything like that so when Bill was left on his own i didnt worry too much as he sadly never had a bond with Budd anyway. It is different with Louis as i know there was a bond and i saw how well he tried to care for Ordell the night we lost him, staying close to him cuddled in their house trying to keep him warm. I really do not want to rush out and get another piggie as i am not like that, i do not look to "replace" animals but in Louis' case i think it may be needed.

I am under the impression that the only pairings that will work are male/female pair or a baby boar. well Louis isnt neutered and after what happened to Ordell I'm extremely reluctant to put him under for an op at this time. what are the chances of him accepting a baby boar? i would obviously be going through a rescue so i would hope i could try a piggie with him before bringing them home to make sure they will get along? or would a spayed girl be another option? do spayed girls come up in rescue often? i am considering contacting a lady that is local to me that fosters piggies to see if she can help but wanted to ask for advice here first. I'm sure i have probably answered all my own questions but as i have never had to find a friend for a piggie before i wanted to double check.

ive just gone through the same thing.. i decided to get another piggy for duke to be with as he was looking lost, and lonely and i found a gorgeous cornoet who was 6 weeks old.. duke hasnt tried to fight with him once..he keeps trying to hump him but archie bites his bum when he turns around but inbetween that they lie down together, eat together popcorn together, they seem to be getting on well. I didn't want to replace shakey, but it was in duke's best interest as i didnt want him to become ill through being alone

I deffo would not have an operation to neuter your boar as its an op that does not NEED to be done.

www.barmy4boars.co.uk has good advice on pairing boars

Hi Hun,

I would take Louis to a rescue to pick his own new buddy. Most people do this and it works really well. I agree about neutering, no offence to anyone that does it and I am in a situation with my Sheltie Cuzzy that he isn't keen on male pigs but could get him neutered but I can't chance it, my daughters would be devestated as would I if anything happened to him. I'm going to try the rescue and pick his own if he finds someone great but I think contacting rescues is the way to go as you may end up with 2 boars not liking one another and having to seperate.

Good luck!

Louise
