What should I do with my baby boar? :(

We checked the two pups (one week old) today and are 99% sure we have one female and one male. We also have two female adults. Now I don't know what to do with the little boy, Aspen! I want to get him neutered, however I've read that they need to be four months old and I don't want him living all on his own for all that time until he reaches four months! And, we can't get another male guinea pig to live with him :(

Could you please share your neutering stories, good and bad? Are the risks very serious?

Or should we give him away? We have friends who want guinea pigs, and Mum says they have a big cage for them but they also have dogs and I don't know how well they would look after him, and I'd have to make sure they didn't breed him with a female.

I will feel terrible either way. I don't want to separate him for months, and then make him go through the neutering procedure and the recovery afterwards, and I don't want to give him away because he has a great life here and I don't think he could have a better life anywhere else :(

Please help, I don't know what to do!

well when my lilly had her first babies 3 girls and a boy i tried to get aflie to bond with his dad max and that didnt work at all so he was then on his own and he on his own for about 3 months lilly then had her 2nd lot of babies 4 boys aflie lived with the 4 boys for about 6months untill he tired to kill one of them he is now on his own again te first time he was on his own he used to cry everyday he hated it he dosent cry now tho and he still gets to see the other guinea pigs

if you do put him on his own for 4 months he will get used to it he will just need a bit more attation and maybe you could let him see the other guinea pigs so he knows there still around

I would put him in a seperate cage next to the other guineas until he is old enough to be neutered. That way, he can still see and interact with them but without you having to worry about expanding the guinea pig population! x

Thanks for the advice! I think there is also another option. My irresponsible cousins have bred more pups by accident. I could keep one of their male ones with Aspen for a few months so he has company and then give him to someone else afterwards. But then I have to separate them again, and I'll get attached! No, I don't think I can do that. This is so confusing :S

If you want him in with your girls eventually the best bet is to keep him in a cage next door to them until he is old enough to be neutered. Otherwise you could bond him with another boar but if they become happy together it wouls be sad to split them up when the time comes!
