So I got my guinea pigs 4 days ago and I have 1 guinea pig who is so friendly so I decided to pick him up. Took me a day for him to let me pet him again. What should I do?

He is mean to his cage mate and I don’t want them fighting any ideas?

Welcome to the forum ☺
How big is the cage you are using. Are they both males?

Males will fight if you have a cage that is too small. They need lots of space to be able to get away from one another when needed

Thank you for the warm welcome 😃

Yeah they are both males and the cage is smallish but bigger than pet store cages. It’s only temporary though.

No problem 👍 for two boars you want about 160cm in length by about 60cm width. Have a look at c and c cages. This could sort the issue between them. Its a well known issue that small cages cause boars to fight.

Also you need two of everything in the cage. A hidey house each, water bottle each, food bowl each. See if this helps.

Sometimes no matter what you try, they just wont get on. Its all down to character compatability in the end. But looks like youll have to experiment to find out

Keep them in separate cages for a few days, but keep the cages next to each other. Make sure the cages are both big, so they aren't forced to be next to each other at all times. Put them in the same cage for 10 minutes per day. Once they get along, put them together all day, but monitor them. Then you can take it from there.

Only problem with this , is everytime you put them together for 10 minutes, they keep having to re establish dominance, which stresses them out, its better to swap hidey houses over and other objects with each others scent on it. But the next door cages idea is good, this is what i did with my two pigs before they were bonded

Just intro them in the same cage. If they even out quickly, leave them in it. Don't remove/reintroduce as they'll start their scent marking and rumble-strut routine all over again, every time.

Get several small boxes, and cut 4 doors into each (so a door flap or arch opening) and place each at different points in the cage (they might move them, flip them, etc., just put back) with the box top on the bedding. Get 2 water bottles, opposite ends of the cage, nearest each box. Two food bowls. If they start tipping the food bowls constantly (an irritating habit once they learn it), consider switching to a large Frisbee flipped over like a plate. I use them now in several cages after too many figured out how to flip the smaller pet bowls, and they'll all line up, evenly spaced from each other i.e. North/East/South/West or in a star formation, or directly across from each other, etc.. Depends how many are eating at the same time. They're big enough to accommodate numerous eaters w/o whining/fussing.

Being "mean" is subjective. They are establishing hierarchy. One is top-dog, other isn't. Numerous boxes with plenty of openings, the dominant one might chase the lesser one out, but that's the idea. Need a big cage. As long as they aren't getting in circle fights with blood drawn, let them work it out.

Sorry but this is not a good idea. You are breaking apart any bonds by keeping removing and each time the bonding process is having to start all over again
