What should I do?

I am hoping it is the Surf but I am not 100% as yet. :(

Don't know if I am being paranoid but I got a bit of an itch in my eyes and on my neck when they were on my lap then. :(

Here are some pics I have just taken, I can't help myself! :<>

How can god allow me to potentially be allergic to these beautiful boys? :0 Maybe if I give them a proper, regular bath, would that help?

Don't worry too much allergies of any sort take time to settle down even when what you are allergic to has been eliminated.

Those guys are soooo adorable.

Have you read the info on cavy spirit on allergies? Don't worry, even if (worst case scenario) you are allergic to them you will probably manage just fine with the right meds!

I've got everything for you it's the Surf. My OH had a horrible itchy rash when we bought Bio powder instead of the usual non-bio too, so I guess it's quite a common thing .

Big hugs to you and your lovely boys that you get to the bottom of it

I am allergic to my pigs but I take medication for another allergy and it helps wonders. It's called Telfast.

I take double the dose due to my severe allergy to the cold (yes the cold) :))

Anyway when I remember to take it regularly I am 100% fine when not touching them etc.. and it's only when I handle them or clean them out which is a problem, which I can live with. I do find when I pick them up and let their feet touch my inside of my arms I get itchy hives (which only lasts a couple of hours) so I generally try to remember to to cover my arms up but do forget sometimes when dying for a cuddle :)) i just get ichy eyes and sneezing when I've cleaned them or had a marathon 4 piggie cuddle session (which is most days) but I can cope with it as I think they are worth it. I have just cleaned them out actually and my eyes feel a bit swollen and heavy!

It is a bit of a nightmare but I'm used to it now. I think the more you do with them the easier it gets. I couldn't believe how great I felt when I was away this summer for a week but I couldn't be without them as missed them tons! I did find it got worse on my return which makes me think it is vetter to be around them more to let your body get used to them more. Anyway no matter what They are worth it to me! x

Hoggle - everything that you could possibly do to reduce your allergies to your guinea pigs is outlined in the link I provided you with (linking to CavySpirit's web page).

I wouldn't recommend washing your pigs more frequently, that could open another box of worms and doesn't really hit the problem in the nail; you'd only be "safe" to handle the pigs before they cleaned themselves or pee'd and before they gained access to hay. It won't solve anything, it won't improve your experience and is just more likely to stress out the pigs and adversely affect their skin, depending on whether you use a GG shampoo or not.

Thank you for your replies. :)

This morning I put out some more hay for them and gave them a stroke and I only had a slight tinge of itching. I have changed back to P@H hay though as I do think that farm stuff isn't good for me as it isn't dust extracted etc. Maybe sticking to store products might be the best move for me.

Thanks for the link too, I will take a look in a minute.

I have been putting my steriod cream on and they seem to be improving. :)

So do you think if it IS them, my body can get used to it and the symptoms will go?

I read on the site there are allergens in the urine and can also get into the air. How do I get around that? Should I move back to wood shavings instead of fleece?

Should I use rubber gloves when cleaningthe cage/holding them?

Well, I have just cuddled them, Hoggle ran up to my neck and what do you know, I am itching! My eyes aren't though.

What should I do? When I was watching them popcorn and play hide and seek then, the thought of me not being able to play with them normally breaks my heart. :(

It is always my neck, only when they have snuggled under my chin though. My hands never itch and I was surprised that my eyes weren't affected, but I am definately happy about it! :)

I can handle a temporary neck rash!

Excellent, then have you got a cotton polo neck top? that could solve that irritation.

Or a nice cotton or silk scarf.

Just a little update, think my problem lies with my contact lenses...I am going for a check up at the opticians on Sunday. I put them in for a few hours on Saturday, Sunday I woke up looking like the elephant woman. :...

Anyway, I was playing with them last night, my neck tingled slightly and very slightly in my eyes (but I think that is maybe because they were already sore) but my eyes are fine today!! :<>

Excellent here's hoping it is your contacts providing you can wear glasses instead.
I'm glad you haven't been haivng a big reaction to cuddling the wee ones.

Thank you! :))

I am going to see if a sensitive type lens is out, hope so! I am bored of wearing my specs already but I will be buying some more after Christmas! 8)
