What Substrate?

I'm hoping you can help me. I've been helping my friend with her guinea pigs for a while and now I'm finally getting my own. I was wondering which substrate is best for my piggies as I don't want to hurt their feet but at the same time I want it to be efficient at absorbing their urine.

I am going to try fleece. It is so pretty and soft and hopefully easy to clean. My rabbits all have litter trays with newspaper straw and hay. They would just chew fleece. Hopefuly the two boars that I am getting soon wont won't be chewers!

We use wood shavings at the moment but I am going to try fleece liners, waiting for them to arrive. I don't mind the shavings but they land up everywhere (girls kick then out and they also get all round the house stuck on socks etc!) plus we change them twice a week so get through a lot so cost is quite high. We are about to extend their cage as well so that would mean even more shavings.

The good thing on the forum is people use a whole range of different bedding so you can read about all the plus points and the downsides.
