hi, my pet shop has sold, temporarily, out of hutch disinfectant so the lady said to try Virkon S. it's a powder in a sachet but it looks sounds too strong for a guinea pig hutch! it says that it's mainly used to cure diseases but can also be used for disinfection of surfaces and equipment in vets and animal accommodation such as kennels, catteries and stables.

should I try using this for disinfecting my hutch or leave it? Thanks :)

My two are in a plastic base cage and I use the cage spray you get from wilkinson to give it a wipe over and then every so often I'll give it all a good scrub with fairy liquid and boiling water.

The options you have are white vinegar or baby sterilising fluid like Milton or simply just water.

I would just leave it this time and just disinfect it the next time you clean when you manage to get some when the pet shop manages to get some in.

Virkon is a very good disinfectant, just make sure you dilute it as per the directions on the pack
