What to do? Can anyone magic me a cage please

Well whether Jive has to have his abscess lanced or a full op he is going to have to be away from the girls so that they do not mess with it which would be fine if i were in the flat at home as he could have upstairs and the girls downstairs, but i am at mums and we only have the one 5ft hutch so not big enough to spilt and is really only fits the three in for a weekend or so. How am I going to pull a cage out of thin air?

have already checked the classifieds..... any ideas on a temporary cage?
 
Do you have a run that you use for the pigs whilst at your mums. Could you set that up indoors somewhere for him to use temporarily until you get sorted with something else.

Or how about have you looked up kids playpens in the classifieds, fireguards things like that. They can often be opened out or turned upside down etc to make a temporary emergency home.
 
1) Borrow from a rescue in return for a small donation
2) Go to a feed store and see if they have rolls of metal garden fencing and just cut a length and circle it and attach
3) buy one package of grids and make a C&C cage but just use cardboard as a temp bottom and replace the cardboard a few times a week
 
no we don't have a run as they get to go freerange on the kitchen floor and the puppy pen is kept at oh mum and dads at the mo! kicking myself as i should have brought so c%c with me but was panicking at the time and just wanted to get to my mums so we could see the cct this morning! kids playpen might be worth a look! thanks for the idea!
 
For just one or two days, a big cardboard box for a sick piggy will do. You would rather have him indoors after treatment, anyway.
 
I agree with Wiebke, a cardboard box lined with towels, fleece or something absorbant will do the trick. Go to a supermarket and ask around the veg aisles if they have anything suitable. :)
 
Outdoors are you mad Wiebke mine are far too spoilt to be outdoors the 5ft hutch goes in the utilty room when we come to visit! The cats beds get put on the floor much to their disgust! I remembered to bring towels with me but forgot about a cage rolleyes or a second carrier.... this is not going quite as smoothly as planned rolleyes

He is a chewer and eats cardboard boxes I am pretty sure he would just escape!

I have asked mum to ask her friends if they have a dog crate we could borrow?

I was going to suggest a dog crate if you knew someone with one.
 
A cat carrier would also do, I've quarantined a single pig in a cat carrier previously! When Chester got poorly he spent nearly a week on a towel in the kitchen :)
 
Tesco's sell those collapsible crates that might be suitable and they're only a couple of pounds. That might help!
 
I would worry about his mental health in a small space as he got depressed after the castration in a 2ft by 2ft cage but sometimes it is going to be as needs must! My mum has a large cat/ small dog carrier that would do at a push but i think i would prefer something a bit bigger for him even though it will only be till saturday evening from the time i get him back.... Plus the smaller the enclosure the more frequent need to change the bedding!
 
Can you get to IKEA and buy an underbed store? I think they are about £6 and they are quite big (90cm by 90cm?).

My piggies used to go in an underbed store at my parents. It was fine for a weekend visit. When my Piggy Wiggin was poorly Christmas before last we actually filled a washing up bowl with hay and put her under the radiator to keep her warm, so it just shows that almost anything can be a temporary pig house!
 
AWW Sorry you're a bit stuck, I would say anything will be okay wont it for now. Bless his heart.

Just make sure you feed him his fav veggies and give loads of love.

It's so scary what's happened! I keep checking mine.
 
Any big rubbermaid tub will work. If he is newly operated he should not be running laps anyway. If it's low(ish) and maybe put on something higher so that he can interact with you he should not get depressed...

If you have an IKEA close the Dilling crates for under bed storage (which I think you use for a cage base anyway?) and reasonably cheap and a good size. You could so something with it when it's not used for a cage too, which is always good.
 
Sorry i did not update sooner but Laura CC4 came to the rescue and has lent me a cage! He came home yesterday evening and the rest is in the h&I thread

Thnaks a million Laura you are a star!
