I'm 100% sure Jimmy is a male and alone he seems very happy, however i can't ever catch him, whenever i try to he runs for his life. Whenever i try to put him on my lap and pet him he stays there for a minute then tries to run away.
Now my other guinea pig Timmy is very cute and I'm not 100% sure he's a guy but from what i checked on the internet i think he is. He is very cute and stays on my lap when i pet him and falls asleep.

In the beginning they got along perfectly, but lately every time they come close Jimmy does his mating dance by swinging his hips and tries to mount Timmy. This makes me think that Timmy is a girl, but then i found out that they do this with other males too. I really dont want to seperate them since i built a huge 2 floor cage for them.

I have a few questions for you guys:
1) What should i do to make Jimmy stop trying to hump Timmy, will they ever be able to just play with each other normally? Is Jimmy's hornyness a seasonal thing or he'll always be like that?
2) If i seperate them, should i get Jimmy another friend, or will he just hump him too constantly

Thanks alot guys, appreciate it.

First off, WELCOME to the forum from us in OZ :) :)

LOL it's a male dominance thing, he'll be just trying to tell Timmy i'm the boss around here ;D ;D ;D
As long as there's no fiighting or biting etc... they should be ok, sounds like Timmy is happy to be dominated at this stage. Keep an eye on it love O0
If necessary can you separate but with a wire divider so they can still see and chat to each other? I see that there's two stories mmmm might make that a bit difficult :-\
I'd say that Jimmy is the alpha boar so matter who he's with he'll try to dominate, 'hump' them and do the 'dance' (btw quite funny to watch isn't it...)

Hope all goes well, keep us posted, and i'm sure someone else will be along to advise also O0

I actually closed off the second floor and put Timmy up there, but still no help, they would constantly make noises and run towards each other and try to chew through the cage bars. Its very hilarious how Jimmy shakes his bum and Timmy grinds his teeth at him, if i let them they will chase each other for hours without rest.
So I'm just wondering will they always have a problem staying together or should i seperate them for a few weeks and then try to bring them back together again?

Btw thanks alot for the warm welcome :P, iv been on many message boards and have never been greeted so nicely.

edit: and i'll try to get some pictures soon. The cage is 5 x 3.5 for the first floor and 2 by 2.5 on the second floor, i was thinking maybe its not enough space for 2 guiny's thats why they fight?

Unfortunately the norm is if you separate they'll not get used to each other again... but i know of a couple of girls who have succeeded but it's not always successful :-\ Have you tried the bath method? Give them both a bath and put them say on a clean sheet with lots of treats and see if they're able to be together, be ready with a towel in case an altercation starts... i do hope you don't have a problem :-\

You're welcome, i was made welcome so readily when i joined so i try to welcome people the same :) :) :)
You'll become quickly addicted to here ;D ;D ;D

When the others wake up, from the UK i'm pressuming you're from the USA? I'm sure you'll get some more lovely advice :)

Oh yes piccies, great, hope to see them soon :) :)

close, but not USA, from canada :D. I have a bad habbit of staying up late due to studying, but oh well more time to spend with my adorable babies.

I really like the bath idea, i will give it a try sometime soon and report back.

Hi............i think you should keep them separated! i know it sounds hard but you could land up having probs.

I have all boars some live alone and some happy together but it does depend on the pigs personality.

The shaking of the bum is normall as he is getting fruity! but when you get the teeth gringing, chattering thats NOT good :(

I had three brother (from babies) all together for months then had to separate one for the same reasons.

I wish you luck and hope you get them sorted O0

Hi and welcome :)
As Glynis says, this rumblestrutting is quite normal for males and Jimmy is reminding Timmy who is boss! I have all boars and two of mine have been together since they were born and are now over a year old and Larry still does this at least once a day ;D Teddy is happy to be submissive so it works well. I wouldnt panic about it unless they actually start fighting.
Seperating them this soon would not work as you will probably never be able to get them together again. If you want to bath them, thats fine, but I dont think it makes too much difference. They can forget their problems for a little while due to the shock of being bathed but thats about it ;D If you do bath them, please be careful what shampoo you use as the commercial ones contain pesticides. Most of us on here use shampoos and melts from www.gorgeousguineas.com they are fab and she does ones for fungal skin infections and lice too.
Let us know how it all goes, I can understand your worries as having a pair of boars that fell out, I know it can be worrying....the key is to wait it out. If they actually teeth chatter, rear up heads and go for eachother, it`s time to keep them apart.

I have all boars as well 3 living together and then aonther two living together, up until like a week ago, one of mine in the group of 3 was humping constantly and I thought I would have to seperate them but I kept a close eye on them and they are absoloutley fine now. I would leave them a little longer and watch them very very carefully.
