I have a bit of a dilemma. Percy and Billy have been bonded happily for several months now, which has been wonderful as Percy is a very dominant pig and finding him a friend he gets along with has been a nightmare. However, Billy has recently been having fits, bad enough that I thought I was going to lose him twice, so I have moved him inside to live with Fred and Monty where I can keep an eye on him. This means that Percy would be on his own. The obvious thing would be to neuter him and let him join the girl herd, however that would mean spending 6 weeks alone in winter, having no one to cuddle. The garage is heated, and he can see and talk to other piggies, just not touch them.
I don't really want to go through the trauma of attempting to bond Percy with a new boar and I don't really want another pig, but obviously I want what's best for him.
Thoughts?

I think a seperate pair would be a good idea, but if you can't do it I don't know I'm afraid

I would try and get him neutered and then a lady friend. As long as your three boys get on along together which is quite rare x

I'm not worried about the trio at all to be honest. Both in the existing pair have lived in a three before (Fred and Billy actually lived together in a three until Percy came along and bonded with Billy) and both are older, recently bereaved and very laid back. Given enough space and resources I'm not anticipating any problems.
Neutering seems like the ideal solution, I was just worried about him going six long weeks without direct contact with another piggy, especially no one to cuddle up to on these cooler dark nights.
I'd bring him inside to live with Billy but I don't have the room (and four cats) for a large enough enclosure for an indefinite amount of time.

Hmm thats a toughie, I would say neuter. Is there space to perhaps have a temporary cage for Billy and Percy indoors for now? So that Percy can have company post neuter and when he's safe Billy can go in with Fred and Monty and Percy can meet the girls.

Unfortunately I don't think Percy will tolerate a temporary cage. He's quite the character and though he gets on well with Billy, they have a lot of square footage so they can get away from each other if necessary. He came to me as a problem pig that they couldn't get to accept another boar to live with.
I think neutering him is on the cards whatever though as it will make any potential pairing easier in the future.

There's always one mischievous piggy isn't there! I hope he appreciates the hard work you put in to keeping him happy :))
