It's a gorgeous day outside, and I would love to put the pigs out for 30 minutes to let them get some sunlight, I was thinking of just giving them a small patch of grass but I worry because the dog goes out in the back garden. I have checked the grass and it's fine I also poured some water on it and letting it dry naturally. I'm just too worried about putting the pigs out incase they get sick if they eat it :(, I've never put them outside before but it would only be supervised and for a bout 30 minutes.

What do you think?!
 
I'd like to know too! Mine haven't even been outside either, but I don't have grass, just slabs which the cars get driven over. But it is so lovely out. I want them to enjoy the sunshine!
 
I'm putting mine out this afternoon for a bit as like you said it's lovely outside today!

We don't have any other pets but next doors cat is always in our garden. I guess what you have to think is no-one can be 100% sure that some animal ( weather it be a bird, cat, hedgehog etc ) has not been on the grass. We just check the area so theres nothing visible that might cause them harm before putting them out. I know some people may disagree with this but what else can you do!
 
WE got outdoor time, I picked the nicest grass in the garden sectioned a bit off, and let them out... I think they enjoyed it only put them out for 30 minutes or so, and have left the run there to allow the grass to grow and to stop people or doggies walking on the pigs dedicated space :))!
 
i was thinking of posting a thread about this myself.

i feel a bit tight on my pigs they are in their cage, I'm going to set their run up in the living room but i think it would be lovely for them to go outside. However i only have a grassy area to put them on, its a very open plan garden so i couldnt leave them on their own. They are only 13 week old n not had grass.

I feel like a cruel person though, I'm sure they dont know any different but what a shame
 
Joanne, I am so like you. I have spent the last 6 years worrying about that! If I don't worry about where the dog has been, I worry about where the neighbourhood cats have been, or where the ants are, or whether there's any poisonous flowers or weeds growing, or.....................you get the idea? Anything and everything and more.

But I was brave. Elijah and Errol did go out on the lawn this afternoon though, and then Delilah and Sophia. And they loved it! I checked the patch of grass, no flowers at all, just grass and clover. The ground was warm, the run was half-shaded, they had a water bottle and lots of toys in the run. The temperature was perfect and the only wind was a very gentle, occasional warm breeze.

I see you've already done it but I do the same - if you are worried about the dog issue, keep the run set up in one patch. Keeps that patch of grass clean, and also you can let that patch grow until it's a little piggie heaven!
 
Can I join Worriers-not-so anonymous? :)) I have also been thinking the same thing .... only I have 16 chooks roaming my garden, so I know for certain my grass isn't clean :(, and chooks do get worms (from earthworms and slugs), although mine are wormed every 3 months. We also have my cat and the local foxes and hedgehogs.

The summer houses and runs are being delivered on Wednesday but because of the above they will be sited on the patio which I feel rather mean about. My garden is in full sun most of the time, so although they will be going out all day when I am at work, they will have run-shades and parasols etc. It will be too hot indoors for them. It really is diffcult to know what to do for the best....
