I don't know what to do for the best. one of the
companies I visit through work had a farm with piggies.
There is a baby boar (about 8 weeks old) that has recently
been removed from his mom. first he was put in a small hutch
with his father and left for 6 days unchecked!
when I was on my next visit I checked him and noticed
his mouth had been ripped open and the poor
thing was cowering in his food bowl (he had nowhere to hide).
I reported this to person in charge and he was put in a run on his own,
with a tiny hutch (around 3ft x 18 inches) in direct sunlight!
He is let out occasionally but is often left all day
cooped up! my worry is if we get a hot day he might
die of heat exhaustion. Here is my dilemma - do I bring him
home, even though I have 2 set ups (neutered boars and girls x 2) and do not want a third? i don't mind bringing him home if I could rehome him, but
am guessing this will be difficult with a single boar!? Or, do I leave him and hope he's ok? I'm worried sick about it and didn't sleep much last night! your views would be greatly appreciated (as I think my husband Is getting bored of hearing about it)!

If I had a phone call about a pig in these conditions I would say to bring him in straight away (I run a rescue) - so a phone call to your local rescue may be worth a try, they may have space and you could take him there directly.

This is a good link for guinea pig welfare, perhaps if you provide the farm with some information on current standards of care, it may be taken on board and some changes made.

If the conditions are not up to standard then you can report them to their local council as they may be breaking their licencing terms, and also to the RSPCA, national as well as local.

thanks Suzy

i will have a chat with them and see if I can get them to make some changes! don't really want to go down the RSPCA route unless last resort. I will probably end up bringing him home and trying to rehome him! trouble is they have some more babies that will need rehoming soon so will be back to square one! such a worry. x

i would be worried that if he was only removed at 6-8 weeks old mum and all his siblings could be pregnant to :(
