At the moment,I am looking after a rabbit and guinea pig for a girl that is away.
They are not very well handled, and do not get much attention to be honest.
They are around 5 years old, anyway the guinea pig seems to be quite bloated at the back?and has little lumps under her skin at the back too.
The rabbit hops sideways, and was exhausted after a few minutes of hoppin around the garden, when he went back inside his house he was panting like mad! There is something not right with its hind legs or hips!

I had noticed the guinea pig wasn't well awile ago and did say it to the owner, nothing has been done since, and I doubt anything will be done.

Does anyone even know what could be wrong with either of them?and what I should do!

I don't understand why people get pets that they don't want to look after,or are too cheap to bring them to the vet when they are clearly sick!

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks x

They both obviously need to ve seen by a vet

Think your last sentence is the only answer here.
If your friend is not caring for them properly, ask her in the nicest way possible to surrender them to a rescue or rehome them so they can get the care they deserve from responsible people.
grrrr makes me mad too that people ignore poorly animals.

Oh my gosh, that does not sound great, are the guinea pig and rabbit housed together? we seem to be getting this a lot on the forum at the mo where we are looking after pets for people and they are ill. If you can take them to the vet i suggest that you do as soon as possible, ask the owners if they are willing to hand the animals over to a resuce. This is such a sad situation. Good luck xx

I'm sick to death of hearing about people who cannot look after their pets properly. This girl is either missinformed or very foolish to house these two together.

The guinea pig could have any number of problems, cystic ovaries (if shes quite round) but i wouldnt like to say. The lumps may be cysts, growths or even bite wound abscess from the rabbit biting her.

As with the rabbit i wouldnt be surprised if hes been kept in a tiny hutch. If they are they cant stretch properly or move in a natural way and bones/joints can become weak and deformed.

You said what needs to be done - they need to see a vet.

When is this girl back? I would be having more than just a few words with her. She needs to take them both to a vet or you do and she needs to surrender the poor pair to a rescue or look after them better.

If you cant dedicate your time or money to a pet - simple answer. Dont have one.

Yeah they have always been housed together!

The thing that annoys me the most is that she took them from someone who knew she couldn't look after them.

I fed them twice on two different occassions and apparently I annoyed her because she tought that I tought she was neglecting them.

There was no food in their bowl so I put some in,I wouldn't have left them with no food,so I would imagine if I did take them to the vet I would offend her even more.

I think the only thing I could do is say that I have a friend that is a veterinary nurse and she would look at them for free and just pay myself,or bring them while shes away and say they were very sick or something?

I feel so terrible for them, stuck in a hutch together all day with just each other!I have never heard the guinea pig make a noise!

Thanks for the replies! x

I know it's a joke,she got them for a four year old?

That has no interest at all!

The hutch is about 3 feet long!too small for them, the rabbit is a big one!

I'm going to take them myself,I can't leave them that way!

The poor little things. This is so awful. You must not give them back to her. I would not care to lose this friendship as she is so selfish and cruel. You need to take them to the vets right away and keep them separate. My bunny was kept in a tiny cage for one year and a half. I got him and litter trained him and now he is a house bunny and goes about freely. He has got back the use of his legs. Good luck.

Good for you hun - are you able to take them in and at least give them a chance. Have to agree with the others, they cannot go back to her. Poor little things have no life and cooped up like that has made me feel quite sick but with the right care and lots of TLC, you may end up with two lovely adoptees :)
Please keep us updated :)p
