I don’t have any proper toys for my guinea pigs because I’m not too sure on what ones to get so I’ve just make some hay toys from toilet roll tubes please could you let me know if this is safe and what toys I should get them 😊x

With toilet roll tubes, cut them all the way across the length first, so that no head get stuck. Just incase

I am needing toys for my piggies as well and I am trying the toilet roll ideas,my piggies like them but soon give up on them if you were to get a toy its best to get something they will make use out of. I got a carrot cottage for my piggies once but a week later bye bye that thing was shredded apart. Just watch out for plastic toys as you don't want you guinea pigs digesting this x

Ok what I do with them is I cut strips at the end and then I fold them back so there isn’t enough space for them to get their head stuck in them then I stuff it with hay and treats with the hay

Ok thank you I would never buy plastic things for my piggies anyway I would get things made out of wood so they can chew it too

No, all the way along the length, so that the whole tube can open up

It’s just always better to be safe than sorry. They are inquisitive little creatures and if there is a way of getting stuck, they will usually find it so best to minimise it where you can!

I do think the chances are slim of a full grown guinea pig getting stuck but incase you have young ones

Carrot cottages and Haycubes (only the largest size is safe as a whole piggy can climb in easily, there is a risk of head getting stuck with the smaller ones!) are very popular with piggies. Cheaper options include, a brown paper bag stuffed with hay and herbs, or a plain cardboard box with little doorways cut in, also stuffed with hay and fresh herbs!

Ok thank you for this information I did not know this before you told me so I will watch them carefully when they have the toys in there with them

Cut the handles off the paper bag if they have them
