I know this can help absorb calcium and was just wondering what way its given,i bought some today with the leaves still on top!

Thanks x

no don't feed the leaves or stalks! They're toxic!
I buy mine like this and chop off the top and the little root on the bottom and just slice it, ot doesn't matter which way you serve it, in chunks or slices or grated, some piggies like it grated because it is quite an acidic taste so its a bit less 'full on' when you grate it i think.
Mine happily eat it sliced, i feed a few slices each once a week or once a fortnight to help absorb calcium and so far so good :)

Agree with gogoguineas, no leaves :(
Mine love raw beets and resemble little savages after with red stains all over their faces :))
Asda do salads with grated beetroot which is a hit here rolleyes

Oooo I saw that salad & wondered if it would be okay for them to have?

I have yet to brave the beetroot, can't stand the stuff myself, OH loves it (yuk) so he will finish it if they decide they don't like it (I am sure it's supposed to be the other way around; if humans don't like stuff piggies might lol!)

Do you have to peel it or anything or just wash, top & tail & chop it up for them? My piggies all have white chests/necks so I expect it will look like a horror film after lol rolleyes

I used to only give beetroot 2-3 times a week at most and it was only a small amount. It makes their quiff beautiful and shiny :)
For both girls i'd cut and peel it and they'd devour it drooldrool

no need to peel, they will eat the flesh leaving the skin, mine get it 3/4 times a week, really good conditioning food aswell

I've bought the Morrisons' salad with beetroot in today, it has beetroot strips, endive & lamb's lettuce. I am assuming the beetroot isn't cooked first, I hope not! Anyone else given theirs this before I give it to my OH? :))

Oh I didn't even think they could have it that often!

I gave it to them and they loved it,I didn't give the leaves - they all looked like they had lipstick on and everything turned pink, but they enjoyed it :))

I bought it fresh and cut it up small!

I don't peel mine as i cut into thin slices, just top and tail, they love it!
Yes those salads with the grated/slices of beetroot are fine too, that was how i tested mine as there was some reduced in asda
Asda also do a salad bad called 'bistro salad' normally £1 a bad and it has pea shoots, grated beetroot and something else, might be lambs lettuce or ruby chard or something and mine love that too and its a good way of getting a little beetroot into them :)
