i have just rescued a 8 month old neutered boar but he was alone and apparently he was separated from another guinea pig for fighting. They did not know whether the other guinea pig was a boar or a sow.

Do you think it would be better for him to be introduced to another boar or a sow or just kept alone. I personally wouldn't want for him to live alone because they always seem happier with others.

Thanks :)

The best way to proceed would be to take him to a good rescue that offers piggy dating, so you can try a range of boars or sows to see whether there is one he clicks with! I have always had good success with dating single or problematic piggies - that way they can make their own choice of who they get on with, but you only come home with another piggy if there has been success.

The Potteries in Stoke-on-Trent are currently probably your closest guinea pig rescue.

I think all you can do is try out things ! If you have all boars already you may want another boar to go with him, so try dating boars, if you'd like a girl you can try sow dating but if you do have other boars, you will have to keep them in seperate rooms as when in season the smell of other girls can cause them to fight.

It depends what suits you !

I have boy and girl guinea pigs which live in same sex pairs and the boy's are fine living in a shed with the girls, i pick them up and put them out in their runs with my guinea jumper on so it must be covered in thier smells so they are all used to each other. I did once try to bond a baby boy with an older male and the baby attacked the older male so i had to house them on their own.

PS: That age is typical for fall outs in boars when they are their most hormonal, so I wouldn't put too much store in him being too aggressive to be bondable; things are going to be easier the older he gets and the more his adult body settles down.
