Hi I’m thinking about booking my guinea pig in for a check up at blue cross animal hospital, I have asked them how much it would be and they said a donation. So I don’t know how much I should pay them for a checkup, I don’t want to go too high but I’ve also not got a lot of money at the minute but also I don’t want to be paying them too less.

Just found a new vets up the road from me who I might try out next time! They charge £21 for a consultation.

In answer to your original question @DylanTaylor12 it seems anything between £16 and £34 seems a reasonable amount.

Wow that's good! Everywhere I've been is £30-£35 for a consultation!

It is! It’s my local Vets4Pets but I’m lucky in that the franchise vet there is a small animal specialist, and the other vets are just as good! They’ve been amazing with our Guineas (and our house bunny... and also my hamster!) :))

I think what is reasonable depends on your reason for using them. If it is because things are a little tight at the moment and you would struggle to afford a normal fee charging vet then the donation needs to reflect that. No good paying £20-30 in that instance if you could nip to another vets for £15-20. If however you have chosen to use them as they are the best vets in your area then covering a normal consultation charge would be a very admirable thing to do. I remember having a hamster when we were younger and my parents were on benefits for a while so we used the PDSA. My mum took me out posting coin envelopes through doors and collecting them so that the PDSA had money for the treatment they did

I agree with lady Kelly, if you are using them because you can’t afford a vet then £10-£15 would be ok (my vet charges £18 for a standard consultation £30 something if they are really ill).
