Hi there,
I have a baby boar guinea pig, currently living alone. He was going to be sent to a pet shop because nobody wanted him.
My question is, until he is neutered and could be mixed in with my girls, is it best to keep him alone with lots of human company, or to start a new group off with a neutered female or another male for company?
Any advice would be gratefully received!

Sunny

How old is he? You will find it near impossible to get a spayed female so scrap that idea and if you bond him with another boar and they are happy, it doesnt seem fair to then split them up. You would then have 2 boars to neuter and have to have 2 different groups of boar/sows as it is rare for more than one boar to get on in a group of sows. So, I would say give him lots of human company until he is ready to be neutered :)

He's about 11 weeks old. If I did get another companion for him I wouldn't be thinking of mixing him with my girls, they would be their own seperate group.
But I think you're right. Lots of human fuss until it's time to go to the vet!

You have plenty of time to research to find a good guinea vet who has a good track record in neutering piggies if you dont have one already :) we may be able to point you in the right direction if you lets us know your location O0
