What's best for my pig?

I had two female pigs living in the same cage together, but one of them, Sheila, just died last night. She hadn't been sick recently and seemed just fine a few hours before I found her dead. However, both of them were very sick for a while after I first got them (about two years age, and not sick from the same thing), and although they lived a lot longer than they were supposed to, Sheila was permanently neurologically damaged (the other one completely recovered, though), so maybe her body was just worn out.

The other one, Pudge is very energetic and pokey, and I'm pretty sure that I should get her a new cagemate, but I don't know how and from where. They both came from Petsmart, and Pudge had a cold right from the get-go, so I'm definitely not using that place again. I live in central Maryland, so are there any better, more reliable, pet stores around here, or should I get a rescue pig? Should I get a baby, or one that is her age? How should I introduce them to each other? And most importantly, how long should I wait before getting another?

These were my first pigs, so I really don't know too much about this. I would really appreciate some help from more experienced people.

welcome to the forums from me and the girls in oz :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: am so sorry to hear you lost sheila last night 0:) 0:) 0:) there is a section here called rainbow pets you might like to do a tribute there for her. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: as for pudge, i would totally clean the cage out with disinfectant and would wait a few weeks to see if pudge is alright. if you are in oz, try the rspca to see if they have any piggies or ask your local vet or try a reputable breeder. really hoping you find a friend for pudge, perhaps get 2 young ones and maybe pudge's maternal instincts will take over. sending you hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-* and RIP sweet sheila may you find eternal happiness and peace and be popcorning and running free. 0:) 0:) 0:) watch over pudge and your family and be forever in their hearts. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
