Whats better - guinea pig nuggets or mix?

When I got Piggle the woman gave me some guinea pig mix (in a plain bag) which looks like sort of hamster food.. lots of different bits in it. But then when I got Dotty yesterday the pet shop reccomended guinea pig nuggets - what do you think is best? I am feeding them a small bowl of mixed fresh food as well (carrots, strawberries, cabbage, cucumber as treaty thing etc).

Mixed foods can make pigs feed selectively leaving out the bits they don't like thus making them not get all their vits so nuggets are advised. I do use mix as 3 out of 5 pigs don't like them here so they are a waste of money. As long as they are eating all the mix I wouldn't change.

We've put all our pigs onto nuggets now - there's a lot less waste as they do not leave the bits they don't like, and as Louise says it discourages selective eating.
 
I prefer nuggets/pellets - they're much better because they stop selective feeding and the piggies get all the stuff they need not just all the bits they like :)

Are you feeding a variety of fresh vegetables daily too? not just carrots, strawberries, cabbage and cucumber right? :)
 
Hmm....I just switched from mix to nuggets, but its impossible. They just wont eat it. I wish I'd had them on it from the beginning. But its not too late for you :)
 
most people successfully change their guinea pigs over to nuggets x
 
Thankfully mine don't select feed so we are ok on the mix. If they ever do then I'll change over but we are happy mixers at the mo! :D
 
I give mine pellets/nuggets and changed them over slowly ;) never gave them a choice and there is no waste ;)
 
Pellets stop selective eating, but if you decide to change, give it a chance, too many people are constantly changing the foods over, no wonder the guineas seem fussy, they are probably totally confused! ;D And any changes you do make should be done gradually to prevent upset tummies :smitten:

Thanks for all the replies... Well I am planning to get them both on the nuggets so I have been mixing them in larger proportions with the piggie mix I have so Piggle gets used to them (!)... Oh and thanks for the question but I am feeding them loads of different veg etc - thats just what I had to hand that day! Today they have tomatos, cabbage and cauliflower with some banana for pudding (which I hope is ok!)
They seem to be enjoying the fresh food most of all.. I don't think they have had much of it before!
