Hey quick question just because I need to know :(|)

Now everyone says's about hay 'oh it's nice and green'. It looks nicer and i'm sure it is better but what exactly is better about it. My enquiring mind wants to stop asking the question.

Thanks!

The greener the hay, the closer it is to grass and the more nutrients remains in the hay. Brown/yellow hay may be nice and coarse, but it's lacking most of the nutrients contained in greener hay.

At least, that's what I was told a while back!

Well it sounds about right. Its certainly true of some timothy hay I have that's a mix of green and yellow they eat the green and only ever leave yellow.

Thanks! Hope my mind doesn't throw up any more random questions for a while!

Random questions are good! We all learn something from random questions. :))

pretty sure the greener it is the fresher it is! I can't seem to find much green stuff about in shops though!

Hi give the english hay on the pampered piggies website a go. I ordered this at the weekend & it is great. Long soft green strands. My piggies love it. They normally get oxbow orchard or timothy hay but seem to get through this even quicker & it was much cheaper as well! :)

(Hopefully link will work, I am not very good with these things!) :)

Wow, I've not seen that before, it looks wonderful - thanks for the link Jo!

I have been there and onded up ordering THREE types of hay and various other things. Cost me a fortune. I have to stay away from places like this for the next month now. Beware anyone with no disciplne like me - don't visit it will suck you in! :(|):(|):(|):(|)

Thanks for the link, I have never seen that site before and have just ordered a few bits for my guinea pig and rabbit.

Joy xx

The last bale i bought was a yellowy colour so i now use it for bedding & bought bags of nice green hay for their racks. They're scoffing the yellow hay & leaving the green - i can't win :))
