What's The Best Way To Photograph?

I'm following this ! So manny looked pics .... Then I see mine lol ... I am sort of wave a lettuce leaf trap phone snap re grab lettuce leaf view photos of fluffy bums haveing stolen the leaf
 
If you youtube it, it might help you better, youtube 'DIY light box'. I'm from the United states so material may be different than what's available by you.
 
Just youtubed it. That's a lot of faff! We've got a hooman sized one of those here already... although I can't imagine the piggies sitting still enough to use it!
 
don't get me wrong - your lightbox pictures are great @crnyng BUT my favourite photos on this forum are the natural shots . I don't care if they're a bit out of focus - or a bit dark - I just LOVE seeing everyones' Guinea Pigs.

I keep a camera nearby and just snap whenever I can ! Most modern cameras have lots of settings and it's worth experimenting. I deliberately chose a camera that is good at taking photos in low light without flash . Sometimes I use my tablet .
 
when i want to take a "model":lol!: piggy picture, i normally sit them on a pillow with a white backdrop, or whatever backdrop i want to use, sometimes tempt them with a piece of romaine, however they normally sit quite nicely on the pillow as they are comfy!

i normally use a relatively good camera, to take a decent photo of the girls. I refraine from using my flash as it spooks them, and if they are in a mood to not cooperate with them my camera has a pet setting which just speeds up the shutter so i can take a photo quickly!

I've not heard of a pet setting. I've got sport which probably does the same thing.

They don't "sit" anywhere. As soon as their feet touch a surface they are off! I see these pics that look to be taken on a sofa and think of the only time one of mine has been on the sofa and that was because it was what she had to sprint along to get to the coffee table when she escaped off my knee! (And then spent ages hiding under the coffee table and had to be dragged out by my husband)
 
Most of my best photos are taken outside. Natural light is your friend for good photos. Another tip would be to get down to piggy eye level as it's hard to get a shot of those gorgeous piggy lips from above its also easier to steady the camera.
What sort of camera do you use? I have Sony DSLR and a little Nikon I always keep nearby the pigs because you can guarantee if you have to go get a camera they will have moved by the time you get back.

Camera on floor for stability. This is still one of my favourite photos and it was taken in the days before my DSLR camera.

 
@Rosierum - I have a Nikon DSLR that I use. I probably need to pinch a better lens for it tbh. I don't know the terminology, but the current one is pretty good for mid range and slight distance but not great for close up, and once the pigs are in the run then I am too close to be able to focus on them properly. DH has a 50mm which would probably be smashing. I can't get down to see through the view finder if I put it on the floor either though so I have to point and shoot and hope but that doesn't work out for me at all! I wonder if a decent phone camera might be the way forward as you can see the screen at the back, but I am told I have a "thick phone" since I don't have a "smart" phone!
 
50mm lens are great I have mine on most of the time. Still working on terminology myself. Some DSLRs have movable screens so you can tilt it up and have the camera low without having to look through the viewfinder . I wish mine had a screen that moves sometimes :mal: Most cameras have the ability to choose between viewfinder and what they call live view or in other words viewing the photo you are taking on the screen instead of the viewfinder.
