How many boars in a group do people have? I have a group of 3 and then 2 together, I would love to have all 5 together one day as they would be able to have a big huge c&c cage, I know its not gonna happen though (for a start I would be to scared to even attempt introducing them to each other lol) but I was curious as if it is even possible for 5 or more to live together happily

Sorry I'm not going to be much use here as I have a question for you:red Do your trio get along well, is there ever a pig thats "left out"?

I am going to possibly be having a trio but I would be interested how other trio's get along before trying :)

They get along most of the time, but do have little squabbles, George can be a bit of a bully to the youngest Kreature, but Dobbie always sticks up for Kreature. When they first came here there was a horrible episode with George attacking Kreature, at the time all I had was the tiny cage they came in and the cornered off section they were in so I put George in there in the cage so they could see each other, and touch wood since then there has been no proper nastiness!

I think there are time George can be pushed out but thats only when he has been mean to Kreature so its his own fault, he will go sulk in a corner for a while then they seem to forgive each other lol. I think they are all brothers with George and Dobbie being the same age and Kreature 2mths younger (at least thats what I was told)

I have to say though I love watching them, they are ace!

I had 6 before without any fights, though obviously even with sows there would be some mini quarrels.

I've had a group of 4 boars at one point, until Smores had to be put to sleep. They all got along very well as 4, and they still get along well as a trio.

There are a few people dotted around who have stable quartets and trios. Many of those have quite a few boars and plenty of space to switch around until they have found the right mix.

I understand that it gets easier again if you have a real herd of boars. I have come across of somebody in Germany who has a herd of 20 boars, who live in a huge run in part of her (large) garden with a whole outbuilding to themselves.

Bonding bigger groups CAN be done, but it hinges very much on experience and the right combination of characters - and LOTS of space. There is also usually a mix of ages involved rather than a same age group; and you can't have more than one dominant boar per group.

However, unless you know boars very well, you are more likely to end up with murder and mayhem, so it is NOT something to be tried without a lot of forward planning and the possibility of accommodating every boar singly AND make him happy if things go really haywire!

Wow 6 is impressive! I was told when I got my babies (they were origionally a trio) that I couldnt have 4 as they would fight, I am hoping that this means my 5 will at least tolerate each other living side by side. I would love a large herd but cant have any more piggies so this will be the closest I can get lol

20 wow!

It is something I would really really love to do with my boys, but I dont have piggie experiance (I am needing lots of advice on the 3 as it is lol) and although I could house them singly no problems I wouldnt want to as they are happy with the groups they are in (am I right in thinking if it goes wrong they cant go back to origional groups?)
It isnt something I will be attempting though, like I say side by side is the best I'm hoping for. I dont know anyone personaly with enough experiance to assist either so for me it would be plain stupid to try :)) I do find it all fasinating though and want to learn as much as possible about piggies x

Hello, I have 3 boars, two of my young boys live together, and the older boy who is a bit of a pig-hater :(|) lives beside them.

You have to be absolutely sure about their temperament and behaviour. 4 of the 6 were siblings from different mother but same father, then there is 1 whom is the dominant, and we have a outsider for the 6th. All got on without a problem.

I know a lady who has a group of boars. If I remember rightly she's up to 11 now. Like already said, they need alot of space, she has her spare room converted, and they have a very large outdoor area for summer. It doesn't always work out at, infact boars are rejected more than accepted. It's not an easy thing to do and not for the faint hearted at all.

I think Weibke worded it very well. Things with boars can be all tranquil and calm, then all the sudden there is blood and fur everywhere.

Knowing your pigs character, knowing how to read them, having plenty of space, the bigger the better, and lots of time to spare to put into it. It's not something I'd do myself though, I've kept groups of baby boars together until they've got to the stage where the hormones kick in, but personally I'd not do it at any older ages.

My babies are only just trying to figure out who is the dominant one, with the 3 I cant really tell, somedays I think its George as he chases them all, but then when he attacks Kreature Dobbie puts him in his place, its sooo confusing, as far as tempraments go though they all seem pretty laid back.

Does it mean though that it might be to risky putting them side by side, I dont want to upset them.

I have three sows, so I thought this would sorta' relate. :P
I have 2 girls who are quick nosey, and like to play a lot, and one girl who is a little more reserved. The two nosey one's aren't exactly best friends, but they occupy eachother, and I think if I didn't have one of those, the other one would most probably go and disturb my quiet piggy from what she likes to do, and bully her into playing haha.
It all depends really, on your piggies personalities, and what they enjoy doing etc.
So I'm lucky in a way, that my girls get on, and rarely have a lot of fights.
Although, I have heard boars are more temperamental, so sorry I can't help you with that! :red

Good luck! :)p x
