Between giving a guinea pig ice cubes or frozen fruit? I don't give either, just plenty of cold water, as mine live indoors and the room they're in is not in full soon all day (first thing in the morning, then that's it for the the day) and doesn't get too warm for them (they're near an air vent anyway), out side time is supervised, and usually no more than an hour, and yesterday they were in the shade..
I saw yesterday that people give the ice with the veg, to help keep their piggies cool and hydrated, yet you can't give them frozen fruit..?

There is a danger that they can damage their mouths by having their tongues etc. stuck to the ice. I would be VERY careful, frankly.

Generally, an ice pad, a frozen water bottle wrapped in a towel, soaked towels over the cage (the evaporating water cools down the air around them) or a shallow dish with cool water in for the adventurous or even dabbing the ears with some cool water is much more effective.

I've been looking to buy a little cool pack for my baby's cage when pay day comes around on Thursday but have been a bit baffled as to what I could try in the meantime to keep her cool in this hot weather. These tips are excellent and I will be sure to use a couple if it's remains this warm. (For now she has plenty of water to keep her going while I'm at work and the window and door to my bedroom are open, I get a nice draft through there like that).
