How do you know if a guinea pig is old as i dont no how old he was when i got him. Quite recently he seems different in himself he's turned into abit of a loner and at night time he choses to sleep downstairs in my outdoor cage so ive brought him in i cant see anything phsically wrong with him he just seems like he cant be bothered and wants to be on his own any ideas what can be wrong with him xx

just checked his weight hes 751g when i weighed him last the 13th of december he was 863g xx

*** worried about him now *** been cuddleing him and he was loving it put him back in the cage near the food and he wasnt entertained by it and ran straight in the house x

Hey hon, sorry that Bailey doesn't seem himself. He certainly seems very light, normal weight for a Boar is way over 1kg. also if he's lost nearly 100g in 2 weeks it says to me there's something wrong.
Where are you located? Can you get to a cavy savvy vet today? You should syringe feed him too if he seems off his food. Mush up some excel pellets (in orange bag) and try and feed him that. Also syringe feed him water too.
Please contact guinea pig helpline for advice from Laura www.guineapighelpline.com
Best wishes, Alyson xx

I'm such a stress head just dont no what to do hope hes ok to he will probably be fed up of me by the end of today x

Here is a kist of things that cause loss of appetite:
http://www.guinealynx.info/anorexia.html

Have Bailey checked by a vet; often it is the back teeth that can cause trouble. Older guinea and very young guinea pigs are also susceptible to wider swings of temperature. Have you checked his poo? Is it firm or soft? Is he still drinking mornally? Is his tummy soft or hard in places? That can give you additional clues. How is his breathing?

You can always feed Bailey mushed up pellets if you are worried about his food intake until he can be seen by a vet.

hi baileys been eating carrots now he just doesnt seem his self in the respects of just doesnt want to mix with the other guineas just wants to be on his own x

typical male then my husband has them times on the month atleast once a day lol xx

Bailey has lost 100g in 2 weeks and is now well below a normal boar weight - he should be at least 1kg.

He is also not wanting to mix with the rest of the tribe.

These two things are a significant early indication that he is not well at all....and well done for being so observant.

Keep him separate for a couple of days so you can monitor properly his wees/poos output and food intake..and start syringe feeding to bulid up his weight/strength..Check for lumps. Is he in pain - fur fluffed up, facing the corner? Suggest you take him to a vet PDQ for thorough check-up - teeth, possible respiratory or urinary infection or stones.

x
