What’s with my guinea pig?

My guinea pig is black and white, I’ve only gotten her three days ago. When we had gotten her, her bottom was all brown and it’s hard to tell if it her fur or dirty. Because if its dirty that adoption place was keeping her in a really gross cage, she a long haired. She’s a coroner breed. (Reece was sniffing her bum)

Maybe it’s dirty from her hair getting wet with wee? Someone more knowledgable will be able to tell you more. I have short haired so don’t really know...

@Alex.Guinea If it's dirty then it tends to be matted or a different texture. Have you tried washing it off?

Hi! If she is obviously from a shelter without any medical or other care apart from keeping her alive and not a decent no-kill rescue with mandatory quarantine and medical care, then I would strongly advise you to carefully cut off any long hair at the back end, around the legs and the sides of the body to remove any tangled and cakes hairs and mats. If you live in a warm area, I would give her an overall short-hair cut to make her feel better by not having to lug a skisuit around on a tropical beach - the hair will grow back nicely anyway!) If you have a family friend or member that can hold her while you work on here, it is going to help make the job easier. Try to always keep a finger between her skin and the scissor blade as much as possible to avoid accidents. If she is really badly soiled and mussed up, you may not be able to remove everything, but the more you can get off at this stage, the better.

Then you give her a gentle bath in a bowl in your shower or bathtub, so she cannot hurt herself or escape if she makes a freak jump. You can use a baby shampoo as a one-off in a pinch. Trim off any dirty bits and deep sitting mats that have not come off.

We do not recommend to bathe too much and too often, but a piggy from a filthy place definitely needs a good bath!

Since she is from a place with no quarantine or medical care, you need to do that yourself - quarantine her in another room for 2-3 weeks before she can meet any piggies of yours and have her vet checked to make sure that she is healthy and doesn't come with any nasty surprises that neglected piggies often come with.
