Hi, just wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on magpies problems? He and his brother are currently shareing a cage, and have done since they were born. They have had a few fights now they are entering guinea pig puberty but nothing major and its settled down now. However magpie has started having these weird "spasms" which look like he is contracting inwards and after one or two he makes wheaks like he is in pain. I dont think he is having fits.

I'm taking him to the vets tonight just wanted to ask ppls opinons while I'm at work.

Many thanks!

Sorry to hear Magpie isn't well, I don't know what it might be from that description but definitely agree that a vet trip is in order - let us know how he gets on, I hope all is ok

No dont thinks its heaving hiccups, wallnuts done that before and its definately nothing like it, its like hes trying to curl up in pain. I think it must be something internal

In that case then I would get him to the vet soon. Hope everything goes ok.

Poor Magpie, let us know us know how he gets on.

Sending lots of healing vibes from me and the zoo

Well we took poor magpie to the vets where he was diagosed as having mites and a secondary infection in his skin. The vet was excellent and recommended 6 weeks of antibiotic injections with metacam and septrin for the little guy as well. He is nearly better now and I'm very impressed with our local vet, which i a relif because we never used them before!
