hey guys

i am just looking for a bit of advice about my Moon-pig and what might be wrong with him.

Recently he has lost a lot of weight, which i put him on treatment for worms and he stopped losing weight, but since then has not put much back on, and really does not seem himself.

more recent changes are that his stools now seem a lot smaller than they used to be, and I'm sure that sometimes when i cuddle him i can hear his tummy rumbling. He spends a lot of time hunched up in the corner now. which is very sad.

We plan to get him to the vet next week, but i was just wondering if anyone had seen these symptoms before and could advise what was wrong with him.

(oh, and i should add that i took him to my vet about this not long ago and they were no help at all. the vet had no clue and didn't even try to help. so we have found a new vet which we will try next week)

Thanks for any advice you can give. xx

Gas, small poos, lost weight = gut motility problems probably caused by eating less food which in turn suggests possily dental issues (although there could be other reasons)

Best to get some critical care/Supreme Recovery or mash up some pellets in water and try and get him to eat more off a spoon/via syringe untill you can get to the vet.

Hunched = pain....therefore in view of what you have described, please treat this as an emergency and get him in tomorrow if poss....every day he will be growing weaker and may be too weak for any treatment that may be needed by next week - hence why it is important to give him liquid feed to keep his strength/weight up/

He needs weighing daily to monitor weight loss.

Does the new vet have a saturday surgery?

Whereabouts are you - perhpas we can suggest a good cavy savvy vet or a rodentologist?
