I have 2 pigs, mummy pig is Robin and baby pig is Pepper.
They both used to love being cuddled and held in general but now Pepper doesn't let you even touch her. Robin still lets me pick her up and cuddle her, she doesn't even run from me when I put my hand in the cage. Pepper on the other hand.. she will run about the cage to avoid me and squeal at me if I touch her. She doesn't bite or scratch me, but if (very rare occasion) I manage to pick her up she bites whatever I'm wearing, fidgets and makes a dash for her cage. I swear she thinks she can fly..

What do I do? To clean out her cage I have to literally put a box in her cage and chase her into it.

Hi!
How long have you had your piggies for? New guinea pigs can go from a seemingly accepting initial stage to a very skittish one. Your girl could also have been frightened or hurt badly when you (or a previous person) took her out quite roughly, especially if she hasn't had much in the way of friendly human interaction.

There could also be the chance that Pepper could have mange mites, as the burried eggs in the skin are very painful and piggies do not like being touched. Please do not treat on spec with low dosed shop products that are only geared towards the prevention of but not for the treatment of mites. Youngsters will also need a different strength product. It would be good if you saw a vet for proper treatment if you suspect mites.

How long have you had them for? My Lola was like this when I got her for the first few weeks, it is a clear sign they're not used to you properly, and are frightened of being picked up. Maybe try hand feeding again to build up confidence. Piggies are prey animals and their first instinct is to try and run away.

I've only had them for just over a month.
Thank you for you help! I'm going to take her to the vet to (hopefully) rule out mites. When I first got them they both had a couple of scabs on their back at the bottom. It doesn't bother Robin at all but it does Pepper.

I'm sorry your piggy is acting this way. You should probably take her to the vet. If the problem doesn't resolve, try putting your hand in the cage and feeding her vegetables, and once she gets used to that, try petting her, and after that, holding her. I hope this helped! :)
