My Guinea pigs love broccoli stalk but only if I chop it up first I put 2 whole bits of stalk infront if them and didn't touch it,sliced it up and it was all gone
 
At the moment my girls are new to veg as they were recently rescued from a breeder who only fed them muesli.I'm carefully introducing rocket,watercress and spinach in small amounts.They are very thin so I will be trying them with alittle carrot and apple once I know their tummies can cope and they are loving Supreme Selective pellets, again in small amounts.Lots of different hays too of course.
 
when people feel that they can abuse an animal and get away with it before selling them on makes me really angry
hope they start to put on wait soon
makes me sad when i come in to contact with an animal thats really thin...
 
Yes I agree.Happily the breeding has stopped and all guinea pigs are now in rescue or rehomed via that rescue.The girls are long haired and were in an awful state.Theyre now clean and safe.Amazingly their teeth are fine.They are loving the fact that meal times are regular and have some variety.They will be up to good weight in no time.
 
sounds like you could iether have peruevians sorry if this is spelled wrong or texal at least thats what the breeds name sounds like when my screen reader reads it

Chock also loves solid blocks of alfalfa as well as the alfalfa hay
the blocks are good to have when the hay isn't possible to get hold of in the shop as its an American import os its only available for 6 months or so then it goes out of season till the next again april
its quite expensive but its a 2 pound bail and the hay is really rough so its good to keep teeth down if they are slightly too long as a result of not having enough hay in the 1st place to grind them down.
well done on rescueing them...

Thanks Maddy.I will look out for the alfalfa hay blocks you mentioned as they aren't too keen on the alfalfa hay rings ive bought them and I think they would benefit from the weight gaining properties of alfalfa.Ive just given them a small slice of tomato each.They gave it a sniff and looked abit puzzled but are nibbling them.I guess if for 2 years they've only known muesli-everything else is abit of a mystery!
 
I read somewhere that corn on the cob is fattening. perhaps small amounts of the fresh cobs (mine love it).

Poor lil dears, but they have landed on their paws when you rescued them. :)
 
Chocks latest love is the wild mountain hay that is sold at pets at home (cant remember the company's name who makes it)
bergess dandelion and marigold herbage (who makes these words up...seriously, who does!)
woodlands dandelion feast that is also sold at pets at home.
 
he also enjoys the wilco dandelion and green oat mix as well as the woodlands dandelion feast
 
the natures tuch mountain hay seems to be the only hay apart from the bergess hay with dandelion and marigold and the Timothy alfalfa kings hay
are the only grasses he will entertain at present...
he has expensive taste as both all 3 grasses are really expensive at pets at home but i don't really care as i would rather him be happy and enjoy his grasses rather than have rubbish quality ones that are cheeper.
 
chock's latest food craze is the mixed leave salad from Tesco and the bay leave one from CoOp
 
he loves all the different hays i have for him which i have been rotating in case i cant get hold of one or even two at least he wont refuse to eat any i put down to him this way.
 
Chocks favorite thing at present veg wise is the mixed leave salad from tesco
he's decided that he will eat the Wilco dandelion and green oat mix again as i gave him the pets at home one but he must have found that boring as as soon as he hears me go anywhere near the Wilco mix bag he sets off a storm of wheeking which is really hard to ignore as its so high!

I bought some dried ones from PAH if you look in the bottom of the bag, we saw a load of black moving insects, I'd never buy them again. Everything you give your piggy should be raw, never give them cooked food.

If they don't gain weight might be an idea to take them to the vet, they may want them to be syringe fed plus normal food. It maybe would be best as they are rescued from a breeder then you can be sure they haven't brought any insect friends with them. Thank for taking them in.
 
No worries!Theyve seen the vet and are simply quite underweight but otherwise healthy.IThey are eating really well and I'm weighing them weekly but may well do as you suggest and syringe feed them.Good idea!:tu:

dandelions also of corse and fresh grass
i'm also giving him different hays through the week in case i cant get hold of one type then i know he will eat 2 of the other ones.
trying to keep on top of a fussy pigs tate buds is really tricky...
 
Chocks latest foody thing is meddo hay rolls from Wilco which i'm surprised at as i didn't think he would eat them as they are from Wilco but he loves playing with it as well as eating it...
 
he has also decided that he likes the dandelion and green oat mix from wilco as well after refusing to eat it for 3 weeks...
pigs and their fussyness!
 
Mine love pepper, but they adore lavender as a treat. They can be fussy, something they love can soon be forgotten and things they ignore are suddenly their favourite food:lol:

but as of monday just gone he started going nuts for it again.
I don't understand him sometimes...
 
he now loves the Chamamile harvest you can get from pets at home.
Again he wouldn't entertain it till last night when i gave it to him because he decided he wanted to play at 11 pm when i was trying to go to sleep.
Wonder what makes them go off foods...
Maybe they are programmed to wind us up so that makes their life more intresting somehow.
Just a thought

Chock loves romain lettis. he also loves the soft lettis you can get from Asda...
