I have a guinea pig who has recently started to have labored breathing. The noises she usually makes have dropped to a lower tone. Is there anything thing we can do to help her?

Her age is unknown, but she did have an unsuccesful litter of two babies in October. She is an abyssinian.

Thanks for your time

There is plenty you can do to hlep her achieve a full recovery.

Weigh her tonight to get a reference weight before going to vet tomorrow.

Do you think she has lost weight over the last few days?

Is she eating? Is she pooping? It's worth trying to feed her mushed pellets(or Oxbow Critical Care or Supreme Recovery) tonight to give her extra food.....she needs to keep her weight up and her guts moving.

As Suzy says...vets visit tomorrow without fail. Laboured breathing has many causes ranging from URI to allergy to heart or kidney problems....all of which are treatable if diagnosed and treated early enough. Hope you find a cavy savvy vets tomorrow who can get her the treatment she needs

If you have any concerns don;t hesitate to come back here......
