When..... Around 1977
Who....... Fudge & smudge, school guinea pigs.
From the first time I meet them I was hooked! I used to love holding them at playtime, and I was allowed to take care of them in the school holidays!
I was so privaliged to have gone to a primary school which had pets!
I will never forget those two cheeky chaps, little pale ginger & white bundles.

Rach persuaded me that we should have piggies and we got two girls from Rach's colleague's mom.
We both knew very little about piggies but read up lots before 'Pitch and Putt' arrived - that was 6 years ago in 2006, they are the piggies in our avatar. They were perfect and have started a life long obbsession for us both.

When - 1989

How - As a child I'd always wanted a pet and my parents kept saying no. Unknown to me they had been talking to people about what would make a good pet for a 9 year old and guinea pigs emerged as the firm favourite. We went to the local pet shop, picked two sows (They were called Pickle & Spice) and the rest is history!

I'm very new to loving guinea pigs. Came from an animal loving household. When I bought my own house a few years ago me and my husband went through the idea of a dog, then tropical fish, then a pygmy goat, then a tortoise ... but decided guinea pigs would be the animal we could give the best life to. I remember being worried about their scary looking claws, and struggling during the first days of poop picks (last July)but now I handle them every day, have them running around my living room every night, and regularly deal with 'interesting' guinea pig body issues without even noticing :)

I love them so much!

For as long as I can remember I've been a guinea pig lover. I've 'had' (obviously when you're little they're the parents') my own piggie since I was about 2 I believe. Twizzle who was followed by the piggy I have the earliest real memories of - Flash. He was my little dude and he definitely cemented piggies at the pet for me. Since then I've had something like 35 guinea pigs (including my current 20) with some rabbits and hamsters too but piggies are a firm favourite for me! I sincerely hope that I will have guinea pigs for the rest of my life!

When ? 2003
Basil was a male agouti colored young Guinea pig who came into the veterinary practice where I used to work to be put to sleep. All he needed was mite treatment and antibiotica. I said to the vet on duty I would take him home then and there...the best piggie ever. He was lovely. x

Such lovely stories! A definate theme of when we were all young! Just goes to show if we install good care and the love of animals in our children, hopefully we wouldn't need so many rescues inthe future! :)

I was never allowed pets growing up although I wanted one badly. When I got my own place I knew I needed an animal to share it with. I am allergic to fur and for some reason the idea of guinea pigs came into my mind. I did a lot of research and decided I had to have a pair of these interesting creatures. I then got Amelia Jane and Peronel and fell totally and utterly in love. They are now joined by Sophie and Amina. I am guinea pig crazy. They are my favourite animal ever. I am allergic to them but I take antihistimine and just ignore rashes and sneezes because they are so worth it.

Had piggies as kids at home but fell for two babies in September 2010 - 16 more now complete the piggy clan here.
Thank you Harley and Chopper for chosing us to be your slaves and through you both, have enabled us to home other needy piggies xoxo Not forgetting we have had to re arrange my lounge, sacrifice my furniture and holidays, buy an extra fridge, replace a worn out washer...
Adore and love you all x) ;)

When- 2005
Who- Fizz

(sorry the photo is such bad quality, I was only 12 when i took these)

She was my friend's to begin with and when Fizz's sister died she decided she had no time for her, after much begging she came home to live with me. I saved up all of my pocket money for months and months and bought her a lovely big hutch with an attached run. My heart was in the right place, but i made so many terrible mistakes, I knew nothing of piggies back then, which ultimatley lead to her death. I will never forgive myself, she was such a good little pig, i used to leave her on the lawn wrapped up in my jumper while i practised my hand stands :)) I'm just sorry i didn;t give her the life she deserved, i wish i had known then what i do now :0

The early 1970s and Mum bought us two femal rabbits, one of which turned out to be a boy in the days before safe neutering. She rehomed my rabbit and took me to choose a guinea pig instead.

It was a house with a big garden and loads of guinea pigs - a breeder I guess. Mum realised that mine would need a friend so I chose a ginger pig called Sandy and my sister a white guinea called snowey. Having narrowly avoided a baby rabbit debacle a couple of months later two female guinea pigs turned into 9.

Baby guinea pigs - the cutest thing in the whole universe. Those were more innocent days and mum borrowed a friends boar and we had several litters over the years.

These days i rarely see a baby guinea pig as my animals all tend to be adopted oldies. although I still have this mad idea that one day I'll offer to do pregnant piggie fostering.

I went to get a rabbit with my friend and my friend picked up the Rabbit I wanted who I named Bob and he lived 11years and 6months. Has she moved the guinea pig out of the way he squealed. I said ohhhhh whats wrong with him did he hurt. She said no thats the noise they make. After that I wanted one. And have not stopped having them since. If I could give birth to a guinea pig I would always be pregnant. :rose
