As some of you know I got my 2 first ever guinea pigs yesterday. Her previous owners were lovely, invited me round for a cup of tea and cuddles to introduce the piggies to me. It was lovely.

Anyway I brought them home and they are in the front room alone, this morning I got up and gave them some celery, fresh hay, water and nuggets. The both of them came out and took the celery from my hand and then went in to their bed box to nibbled there hay. The noises they made were beautiful. They were making a sweet little peering song and little oinks too.

Anyway I dont want to rush things and am more than happy to wait but I just wondered when I can have a cuddle?

Its great that they are taking food from your hand, really encouraging, were they handled much previously? Take it one step at a time, let them get used to their new surroundings, sounds, smells noises etc, pet them in the cage and if they are ok with that take them out for a while and have cuddles, if possible take them both together to start with until they are used to it.

Good luck xx

As they are obviously pets that have been cared for and are not shy, so I would think that you can handle them anytime!

The ones that need more time are those that have hardly any human contact before and are frightened by their new surroundings and change of life. None of this seems to be the case here.

They were handled everyday and for a great deal of time :)

The couple who had them would sit and pet them when they watched the tv. I really could not believe just how sociable they were yesterday. Pete was a little nervous but paulie was soooo relaxed. Paulie was sat on my hubbies knee and I was sat beside them with pete. Paulie soon found his way over to me and snuggled down for a nap with his brother. It was lovely. I have bought them a few toys and am going to keep giving them a little peice of veg through out the day, hopefully they will soon catch on that I am there to care for them.

Do you think I should open the pen and sit with them tonight? see if they want to come out say hello. It will be about 8.30 after I put my daughter to bed.

If they have always been handled then you can handle straight away, its always a good idea to sit near the cage and waffle onto them with some foodie treats, they will soon associate you with good things, as with having them out for cuddles, give them a few spinach leaves, they'll be putty in your hands! xx

Sit with them and let them get to know you on their terms; by the sound of it they are well loved and very used to cuddles, so I wouldn't think you will have any problems at all - they are obviously used to being part of the family!

Thanks guys! They certainly have been very loved. The lady even rang this morning to see how they are getting on.

Anyway I am off for some spinach and piggy goodies now :(|)
