Should I ask when calling. I thought I would ring around a few as we use one for our other animals but that doesnt mean they are any good with piggies so should I ask if they have vets expereinced with piggies and how much do you think is a good price for a check up?

I'm not sure, maybe you could ask if they have a small animal/guinea pig specialist or someone good and knowledgable with piggies...maybe you could ask them if they treat many piggies? I'm not sure really lol, sorry.

Some questions I would ask...

What do they consider safe antibiotics for guinea pigs? (have a look on the GL site for safe ones)
Do they have experience with anaesthetizing guinea pigs? (Isoflurane and Sevoflurane are safe anaesthetics)
Have they got experience with surgery/complex treatment on/of cavies?
Do they do skin scrapings to confirm mites or just treat if a pig has an itch? (it's better if they just treat)
How much would a course of ivermectin cost?
Have they heard of the CCT/GuineaLynx? (showing they are willing to research)
Does anyone at the practice own guinea pigs?

I think a good checkup would always cost less than £10 - an initial checkup at the vet hospital near me is free to encourage people to bring in their pets.

Ring the nearest guinea pig/ small animal rescue as they should be able to tell you what vets they use, vets that specialise/ have a lot of experience with treating guineas/ small animals or rodentologist in your area. That is how I found the vet that saved my guinea who was basically knocking on deaths door. O0
