An awful question to ask on Christmas day but i'm sat here asking when is it time to say I should consider euthanesia for the well being of the gp.

I've just been to the shed to tuck all gps up for the night. Poor Daffodil, who has had a horrible life and has recently lost her companion is very unwell. It was recently suspected that she might have Glaucoma but having been on eye drops for two weeks and baytril for a week the mass of swelling in and around the eyeball has gone down. The eye still weeps daily and I clear it away.

Tonight when I went to clean her she has a mass swelling on her cheek and upper lip. It's a solid lump and no movement as so often an abbcess has. It is a large lump covering the entire side of her face.

I have given her Metacam as a painkiller until I can take her to the vets.

She is very thin and has put on very little weight since being her. Poor Daisy, her companion died of malnutrition and goodness knows what else.

Is there a time, for her sake, I should consider putting her out of these troubles and pains or do I allow her to carry on from one illness to another maybe never fully recovering?

i'm not really sure ...

Claire

If you think her quality life is poor then i would consider putting her out of her misery.
I know its hard but at the end it is what is best for your piggy.
Only you can make that decision (which makes it harder) but take her to the vets to get the lump's and eye sorted.
Have a chat with your vet and see what he/she say.
Another thing is she could be pinning for her mate.
All i can say is take her to get the lump's sorted and speak to your vet.
Take care.
Am here if you need to talk, you and your little piggy are in my thoughts.
Loveand Hugs, louise

Go with what your heart tells you to do Claire, I know you'll do what's best for your little sow. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What a horrible dilemma for Christmas, Claire, but I agree with Millie's Mummy, and Daffodil's quality of life is what you have to think about. It may seem harsh to be considering euthanasia, but you know her better than anyone, and if she's constantly having health issues, with pain being a regular "companion" then it is something you may have to think about. Not an easy decision at any time, but if she's suffering, then I think you must follow your instincts.

She may have an abscess behind the eye which has now spread down her face, have you tried coeporex I found this better than baytril for abscesses clearing some that baytril had not shifted. It is a hard decision and unless you know the animal not one that I feel I could make a comment on. Good luck daffodil and I ope what ever happens your pain eases soon.

I would probably give her a chance with a different antibiotic which as already been suggested and maybe an xray. If she is eating or taking critical care from you then this is a good. I'll offer as much help and suppor to you that I can. It is you though that knows your piggie the best and what will be the best for her. Thinking of you :)

It's always such a horrible dilemma. Maybe try a different antibiotic for a few days and see if there is an improvement. My vet uses Zithromax when other antibiotics haven't worked, and finds it works really well with what has often looked like a hopeless case.

However, only you will know if it's time to say goodbye. My thoughts are with you. xx

I feel so badly for you... I went through this just a week ago with my little girl, and honestly, at the end of the day, all I can say is that you, and you alone, will know when the time has come. If she's not in pain, and is still eating and drinking, then maybe see if something else will help, but your heart will tell you when it's time to make the decision. I'm so sorry that you have to think about this, on Christmas, of all days, but I know you'll know and do what's best for Daffodil. Hugs for you...

Just sending you warmest thoughts....I am sure you will do what is best for Daffodil x

Thinking of you. It's always a very difficult desicion but I'm sure you will do whatevers nescessary.

Poor Daffodil :(. My sympathies are with you, I had the awful decision to make a few weeks ago - I know it's heartbreaking. Knowing that it was the kindest thing for my girl was the only thing that made it slightly easier to cope with afterwards. Hopefully things will turn out for the best, either way. Thinking of you. x

I'm sorry this has happened this way love, it's not fair is it? poor little one :(
I'd give a new med and antibiotics a chance......you just never know.
HUGS for you both and good luck, give her a little cuddle from me too please xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
