Some of you will know that i sucessfully bonded my two boars with another boar Chocolate nearly two years ago.

Well when my friends guinea pig died and Snowie needed a new friend, I asked Becks if her Rolo whos previous friend passed away would like to be tried with Snowie.

Becks was a little nervous as she had tried Rolo with a new baby boar but after a few months the little one Carmac turned on poor Rolo.

Having sucessfully bonded older boars as i mentioned earlier we decided we would give it a go.

They met at my house this afternoon both Becks and I arranged time off work and we let the two of them who are both coming up to 4 years old go on a boar date!

Rolo and Snowie after all the food was eaten

Rolo humped Snowie a few times who didnt careless that Rolo wanted to try this with him.rolleyes

After letting them play for a good few hours we put them in the carrier and watched them for a while and this is what they did!x)

So far so good heh! You see old boars can still have funx)

It's a brave and brilliant thing you are trying there, but judging by the pictures it seems to be working. I do hope they bond successfully, it will do both boars a lot of good.

Thanks everyone, and particular to Linds for her help with the bonding!

I have managed to get the week off work so I will be watching this pair closely.

They have now been together for nine hours and after the excitement of the day are settling down to sleep together. So far they are happy to share veggies and eat from the same bowl so hopefully this is all promising.

Snowie has now had a name change~not cos I don't like the name, infact total opposite I love the name so much that I already have a budgie called it!So to avoid confusion Snowie is now being called Smudge.

I will keep you all posted on their progress this week, for now everyone keep your fingers crossed for these two old boys x

Night number one all done and dusted. The boys are still in the lounge at the moment for observations, and so far they are learning to adapt to having another boar about again. Rolo appears to want to be the dominant boar which he always was with Rocky, the problem was when Caramac grew a bit he wanted to be that too. Smudge however, despite weighing 100g more than Rolo is quite placid, which I believe has always been the case so the pair so far are working well together. Both have been munching away om their breakfast this morning, and Smudge has even spent more time outside the carrier so is adapting to having me around too, although I got a nice piccie earlier of both of them relaxing together in there.Keep it up boys.

Awww thanks for the update.

Great news on their friendship. :)p

I do think older boar datings do go very well as long as personalities match, they dont have to go through the big hormonal upheaveal that they would go through when pairing a baby boar with an older boar, so I think the it can be more stable.

Although a lot of people are put off by bonding older boars because uninformed owners are put off doing so by pet shops etc, as in a lady I met yesterday that was adament because the garden centre worker told her because her boar was over a year old he would take to another guinea pig. grrrr
This is where education is lacking, and where rescues that offer boar dating are doing a brilliant job in getting the word out. I think we would hear a lot more about adult boars bonding well through Guinea pig rescues.

Anyway, sorry for rabbling :red So lovely to hear of Rolo and smudge's story.

:)p

So far so good Becks they are both lovely boys.

I feel quite passionate about giving older boars a chance its such a shame that they have a bad reputation for not getting on once they reach a certain age. Pet shop advice does not help the older boar cause rolleyes

ahhhhh yes Linds pigserience makes the difference, not like the people who talk but have no experience rolleyes:)>>> sorry i do know we have some wonderful people on here that do work in pet shop environments, you guys understand it just seem the majority (or am i being unkind?) are not so with little exotics.... :{

Well all day I have been watching these two eagle eyed, and bombarding poor Linds with picciesm so rather than tell you how today has progressed I thought that this piccie may better describe it...

At the moment I have two very sleepy boars curled up on my settee! Here's hoping tommorrow continues to be as sucessful as today has.

I have fell head over heals with Smudge, I mean who could resist piggie lips like these

Oh and before I forget - I wanted to make a special mention of Caramac, my other piggie boy, he had extra loves today to make up for not being part ofteh bonding (it was he who decided he didnt like Rolo when he was younger)
