I have 2 piggies that are a year old. :smitten: And Ive been worrying about this since the day I got them! So I thought I'd ask everyone's advice to put my mind at ease!

I dont like to say it but when the sad day comes and one of them dies, what can I do to make the other one not pine for her. I wouldnt want her to become depressed. I know the best thing to do is to get another little friend but this might not be feasible if I have to phase out keeping them (if my circumstances change). However I would hate the thought of giving her away. I would do my best to keep her company but this isnt always possible if you are working from 9 - 5.

Any suggestions?!

Hey! Its never nice to think about "that Day" but when i had mt two boys. they were brothers and had lived together all their life! they sqweeked for each other when they were apart. When *Reggie* died (age 6)... my Other piggy pined for him for about 2weeks. it was veery sad to see but i got him in everyday and gave him lots of attention, Because Reggie died at such a good age, i didnt get another companion for *Ronney*. Ronney however passed away just lastweek at a Grand old age of 8years old! he has been very very very happy pig but i used to get him in lots and give him lots of cuddles!

the thing is.... if your 1st piggy goes at an old age... and you get another 1 to replace it... what happens when the original one dies.... again = lonely piggy!

I'm my experience, although *Roney* did pine for *Reggie*, with lots of TLC he ended up a extreamly happy Piggy!

Hope this was on some help to you!

When this happens many people would get another guinea pig or get another two baby/young guineas to replace the one that has passed away (so that when the other older guinea passes away the other two guineas still have each other) or just give the one that is still alive a lot of attention. I really don't think you should be thinking about this just yet, your guineas should be around for at least another couple of years. :) Welcome to the forum. :)

I prefer to keep guineas in threesomes for exactly this reason (though mine are in groups not 3's), thats option one.
Option two is to rehome your guinea that you're left with to a rescue that will either rehome her or put her with any resident guins they've got.
I don't believe in keeping pigs on their own so no option 3 for me.

Hopefully they will not be without one another for long. Your problem might come if one dies 'early' and the other carries on till 8 or so. I think this is a good thought/topic and is a reason pigs are brought into rescue sometimes. Make your decision now while you can- it will be upsetting whatever you decide so do the best for your guinea :)

I'm not sure what I'll do when that happens, I'm hoping it wont be for a very long time though.

Just curious though, would a spayed sow and an un neautered boar get along?

Havent really thought about too much since I've had them to be honest but I was just wondering how other people coped. Thankfully I havent been in that situation yet cos these are my first two. But I guess when it does happen it's difficult to know what's for the best. :-\

I read on another post about 'Tinkerbells' little Ronney living until 8 years of age and Reg until 6! Thats just amazing! Its a real credit to you and how well you've looked after both them! My pet 'lutino' cockatiel called 'Noddy died yesterday :'( and he was 26. On average they only live until 12-15. I'm sure my little piggies have noticed he's gone cos their indoor cage is opposite to his and he was always making little background chirpy noises. RIP Nod going to miss you. 0:) See you on rainbow bridge

Thanks for your warm welcome to the forum 'Cavy crazy'. I was new yesterday and it's great! O0 As I am new I thought I would just introduce my 2 girlies to you all. My 2 piggies are called Ruby and Dilys and I love 'them to bits! Ruby or Rube as I call her is what I guess to be a saffron self, with red eyes. She can be a little madam but she's hilarious when she gets so excited she cant contain herself! Dilys/Dil is a bit more introverted and a bit of a baby but soon comes out of her shell when she smells some parsley! She's a golden self. She's the prettiest little guinea pig Ive ever seen (not that I'm biased or anything! ;)) cos it looks as though she wears eyeliner which makes her eyes look big. Dilys is welsh for perfect/genuine which I thought was a lovely old fashioned name.

Thanks for everyone's replies so far. :D

Spayed sows and boars get along if their personalities do (and they generally do). :)
