As many of you know, my girls live in a wooden hutch in our out house. I noticed this morning that they didn't feel as warm as they usually do. They didn't feel cold or anything but just not as warm. Anyway, their hutch is still as it was during summer so I was wondering when I should prepare it again for the winter eg putting the carpet back over the hutch, adding extra bedding and closing the shed door fully over night? I also have a snuggle safe but I don't really want to use this just yet as I'd like them to have that when it's really cold so they feel the benefit more. I want to make the changes gradually but don't know when to start and what to do first? At the minute, I leave the shed door slightly ajar over night but may be I should start closing it fully soon?

I'm sure you'll get loads of different answers, it's all down to how you feel as no one else knows your set up.

My rabbit and guinea pig hutches are in a shed but this week I've started to close the doors as we have a north wind and it's been cold during the night.

I have a wool blanket and cover, which I haven't put on yet - but I've started to think about the winter, etc and getting things ready for when they need them.

Mine are pretty much ready for winter. As it is their first winter with me, I wanted to make sure they were comfortable.

But it is down to how you feel...you know your piggies better than anyone else :)

i have got mine prepared for winter already and mine are indoors! they only reason why is the room they are in is north facing so never gets the sun and the house is extremely cold - we get ice inside in the winter, its wrong but is an old out of date house!

tonight is going to get cold, dropping to 2 degrees in this area tonight, so make sure they are wrapped up warm!

I have started to cover the hutch with carpet just this week as the temperature at night has really dropped here (East Anglia) and the wind has been quite fierce. The hutch is in a substantial shed but I do still worry about the cold getting in. I have also increased the amount of shredded paper in the hutch.
