We have 2 boys and 1 girl pup. Was born on August 1. The boys are 166g and 181g. The one that is 166g has been trying to mount ALOT, and the other has been doing it some as well. They have a vet visit on Monday. When should we separate them? We have 4 adult females in the cage with them as well as their sister. Thanks!

Hi

How old are your boys? We recommend to separate at 250g or 3 weeks (any baby boar companions should be at least 200g on separation) - whichever happens sooner. Right now they are physically too small yet to do any damage.

I assume that one of the sows has been in season and that the pheromones have woken up the little one. Some baby boys react sooner than others as their male instincts don't always kick in at the same time.

You can find the whole separation issue in detail explained in this very helpful guide here: Baby sexing, Boar separation and Moving on

Thank you! Yeah they will be 2 weeks on Saturday so I think still a bit young, but I definitely don’t want accidental litters 😬

They are definitely too young and too small yet. But you have definitely an early boy in there!

Please take the time to have a look at the link in my previous post where I discuss all scenarios in detail from early separation to when a boy is safe staying longer with mum and how to best manage separating brothers with different weights.

Hi , I’m getting these precious baby boys when they are ready to leave momma keeping the brothers together. How will the transition be and how can I help them? I have had bunnies but never Guinea, definitely looking forward to it.

Hi and welcome

We kindly ask new members to please start their own thread in the relevant section and not take over anybody else's.

Our friendly forum is independent of social media but in order to give everybody our best individual ongoing support, we have a 1 case = 1 thread rule. Dealing crosswise with several ongoing issues on the same live thread or having a historic thread revived can become very confusing and can lead to us giving misleading information.

It is also crucial that in order to stay relevant in searches, we rely on creating new content all the time. I hope that you can understand that?
