When two became three. (bonding photos)

Today was an important day for all my boys, their mum got up early washed/hosed the entire shed/hutch out, cleaned every bowl/bottle/toy in sight and then the boys were bathed and plonked in their 'bonding space'.

And so the introductions began! (and if your wondering whose who:
from left to right: Percy-Roo, Harvey and Artie)

"Well I'm wet too....hey, thats three of us all wet and soggy. I thought there was two of us this morning? Thats so cooool an invisible friend"
"Harvey, thats a real pig, you met him on thursday night, remember? Its Percy-Roo."

"Nothing Percy. Shush Harvey.We are all too wet and soggy for any kind of exploring. So shush, and eat your hay quietly."

The boys have been bonded for three and a half hours now, so i'll be keeping an eye over them over the weekend, and hoping they continue to keep their dominance behaviour to just mild teeth chattering and humping (piggie back rides) they've been really good together so far happily chatting away to one another and a few popcorns so fingers crossed!
 
Awww - your threesome really made me laugh! Best of luck for integrating Percy! I wonder what kind adventures the three of them will get up to?

Thank you for all your kind comments, and vibes the shed is now a complete mess there has been a lot of chasing and humping yet they were all snoozing away on the vetbed when i went to put them outside silly boys! :))
 
awww lovely, glads to see the piggies are bonding well :) i love the toilet tube hay banner thing you've got, really clever idea, think i may have to save my loo rolls for my 2! x
 
I have separated the boys. Harvey and Artie are in the shed together, and Percy is back in his indoor cage. Things are much, much better and calmer.

Percy was, as expected, constantly humping H & A, and the final 'straw' came when he lunged at Harvey, who was just laying down on his vetbed, no blood has been drawn but the teeth chattering was getting louder. I know some would say keep going with the bonding, however i feel if i keep going one of my boys is going to get a bit peeved with Percy's constant humping and going to turn. so thats why ive took the decision to separate.

Harvey and Artie are now sleeping together in their hay bed and Percy has gone to sleep with his teddy bear.

I'll be neutering Percy-Roo when he puts on a little bit more weight, and housing him with some girlies (not near H & A)

I bet you were expecting me to put that :( I feel very shakey at the moment as everything was going so well this afternoon and over the past week with intros through the run.

(Oh i have checked them all over no cuts/ hair/ blood/ bits of ear missing everyones still in one piece!)
 
Am sorry things didn't work out. I think you made the right decision for all of them though. He has a wonderful home and life ahead of him regardless of which piggies he is living with.
 
You know your pigs best and there is no point forcing something when you feel it's not working.

Bonding is a nervy business. I've helped with a few at the rescue as well as bonding my own. It's very tense and you feel on full alert.

Thank you Helen, I think that I've been thinking, researching etc about trios for a year now so was really prepared and have been watching/note taking on my boys to see whether they'd accept another boar, as they are so relaxed and i think i was just 'expecting' it to work,but obv. its not meant to be. I just feel awful that ive made them all stressed for six hours! :( Thank you for your kind words, xxxxx

Thank you, I'm going to sleep so much better tonight knowing they're much happier.:)

It is nervy indeed, i dont think i ever want to bond pigs again! If girls are this hard i'd love to know how people do it with ten or more pigs :))

It is not easy to bond three piggies, but you did everything you could.
 
At least you've tried. Boys are so difficult to bond as a trio. My trio we great for about 3 months then fell out. Will we get two lots of adventure storys now instead?
 
awh my ralphy roo likes piggy back rides and hugo doesn't seem to mind to much,maybe its something in the roo :))
Hope the boys all settled down and plus why would you be sad if you get percy roo neutered you get girly piggy too

Bonding is a strange affair. My Rosie does not bond lightly - I tried her with all 3 of my other girls, to no avail, and so Basil joined the family. He seems to be a good influence, and she is much happier.

The strange thing is, the 3 girls co-existed relatively peacefully in the run (Rose and Sweep actively loathed each other, so run-time as a trio only lasted between her passing and the advent of Basil).

I was sorely tempted to try bonding all 4 of my pigs so I can revert to a 2-tier cage instead of 2 separate cages. As my mum said, though, it's not worththe risk of a big fall-out, so they will live as 2 pairs in the cage, but share run time.

I think you did everything you could with your boys, and there's no 'failure' in the outcome; Percy-Roo is clearly not suited to being an Adventure Pig, but will love being the Stud Pig (metaphorical, not literal).

As long as they are all happy and healthy, I think you should be happy. They are all lovely boys, but obviously not meant to be a trio.

Think of all the fun you can have when you get Percy-Roo a wife!

Make sure you clean every inch of the cage/hutch/shed includ. walls and floors. All toys/bottles/bowls/wooden chews too,and put any fabric items on a 60s. Good luck keep a close eye on them for the first 24 hours. good luck!

Haha! It must be the roo thing, he does like his piggie back rides, i know i cant wait for some girlies I'm going to kit the cage out in pink (much to percys dislike!)

They did, i think Percy prefered Artie to harvey, he was not at all best pleased with Harvey being near Artie and just kept going for him. Least everyone is settled down now and no more worrying.
 
Aw! Maybe he knew that someone would definitely neuter his mangoolies away and give him some girls, so he's rebelling against 2 ebil boys!

P.S - I wish they would stay a trio though, they're so sweet together :( But I guess Roo pushed his luck a lot huh.
