hey ! I am new to this, I wanted to ask you all a question .... So I have been feeding my Guinea Pigs a few fresh dandelions for a little while now and since it’s nearly winter, I am aware the dandelions will probably die out ! Therefore, is there a way to buy them from pet stores or buy dried ones ? If so where Can I buy them please ? Thank you so much ! x

Earlier in the year I ended up drying my own dandelions and it worked really well.
Three months later they are still the piggies absolute favorite treat, and I am worried that my supply won't last the Winter.
I wrote about it here:

Dried Dandelions

So if you can gather a few it is definitely worth drying your own.
If not I know JR Farm do bags of dried leaves, so if you local pet shop don't stock them then you can probably get them online (Zooplus).
But drying your own is much cheaper

And welcome to the Forum too.

Thank you very much for your help ! x

A few weeks but once they have grown you have a ready supply. You could always plant them a week apart so you always have some. Just take of the outer leaves and leave the new inner leaves to grow.

If you just google dried dandelions it comes up with various retailers such as Petmeds. Search first though as prices range from 2.50 to over £ 4.00 per bag and there’s postage on top of that!

Hubby laughed at the thought of me planting anything! Knows I’ve no patience to wait for them to grow anyway! Have managed up until the frost to gather some and their grass every day. Roll on Spring! Just dried ones now!

The hay I normally buy has dried dandelions in the bale...and of course my two generally ignore them lol. I'd send you theirs if I could, they sure won't miss them!

Of you could plant a load and home dry the excess.

l foraged what l use for my herd, best when in flower, my lot really love the flowers, cut at base of plant down about 1/2" below the crown,( these will then regrow, and ready to cut again in a couple of months time) hang the plants upside down in an airy shed or greenhouse till you use them for winter treats.

Are bagged dried dandelions from any retailer ok? Making sure they are not some scented or decor kind? How do i know for sure because gizmo loves the dried dandelion leaves that are in mixed bags of treats from petsmart. Can u literally pick them out of lawns and dry inside if i wanted to? We have lots of yard around here full of them! Thank you for any help!

Yes you can do that. Just make sure you wash them off if there are any dogs or cats that could have wee'd on them before you dry them. @teddymouse is the best one to advise on forage.
