With Marshmallow, we had gotten to where we could keep the fleece lined cage fairly clean (at least in part of it). She comes out to the hay rack just fine, but I was also putting a pile of hay right in front of her hidey. Now with two piggies and two hideys, I have been putting hay in front of both hideys, but it basically gets everywhere! Marshmallow was starting to use the potty mostly in the eating area, so we had a make-shift litter area, which was keeping the poops mostly in that area. Now with the hay everywhere, there are poops everywhere too! Is this just how it's going to be with 2 piggies? Or is there a way to keep it neater? Do I need to continue putting the hay in front of the hideys?

Thanks!

Hay gets everywhere and piggies like that. It is not mess to them. I just put it in a pile and let them enjoy it. Never worry about keeping a cage tidy, only clean.

Okay, I guess I thought it would be easier to keep clean if it was tidy. Ha ha! With the litter pan (with towel and fleece) I can change that out and not worry about pee all over the cage, but that might just not work now. Poop gets all in the hay, too, so it's hard to clean the poop out without wasting some hay too. I guess this is just how it is, then?

You can use a kind of tray under your hay rack to keep the hay halfway contained. Many piggies love lying in hay, and they also like using it as a toilet. I use old seed trays, the bottom of a hamster cage etc.

However, my cage has been dubbed "Tornado Alley" in recognition of the havoc 12 piggies can wreck in not time flat! :))

to help with a mess you can buy a rubber pet hair brush to get it off before washing ! (:

I love to put a big pile of hay on the floor of their cage and watch them forage.
It's what's natural to a piggy :)
