There are so many different types of hay and then also different brands....it can be very confusing, I agree!

I think "Timothy Hay" and "Meadow Hay" seem to be the types of hay which most people buy for everyday. Some people manage to find local suppliers of good quality hay by the bale (farms, horse feed suppliers etc) but a lot of people order online. If you can store it well then bulk buying hay often works out most economical.

These sites seem to be popular around here:

At the moment I'm feeding my piggies mostly meadow hay with some Burgess Excel Herbage (98% timothy hay with marigold 1.5% & dandelions 0.5%...you can buy this in most pet shops and lots of places online). They also have dried grass as a treat, especially good during the cold weather when they can't go out in the run (either Burgess Excel Forage or Readigrass).

How old are your girls?

I give mine mostly herbal hay and German hay. They don't like thimothy hay and honestly neither do I. It's too 'yellow' for my taste. I like my hays thin and green with leaves and stuff in them.

Thanks for all the info and links:)

Missy- I'm not sure how old my girls are, i was told they are 8 wks ish, but they look much older, especially my rex, i will post some pics as soon as they let me take some, they are still hiding :))

Awww...I'm sure they'll be much braver once they're settled in :)

I just wondered how old they were because alfalfa hay is very good for young pigs (up to about the age of 6 months, I think). It is very high in calcium so great for youngsters and nursing mothers but should otherwise be fed very sparingly.
