Hello,

I have two 11 month old boys and my mum has a neutered 8 month old boy who was supposed to go in with her two girls.

When we tried to put him with her girls, the stress caused on of the girls to start fitting.

So we arent gonna try that again!

Do you think the neutered boy will be accepted by my two intact males?

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Have you gotten to the bottom of why Sophie was fitting? It could be a medical reason and mites can cause fitting in some cases. I would if you haven't already get her checked by a vet.

It doesn't matter if a pig is neutered three boars together is not common, sometimes it can work but I wouldn't reccomend it as you may end up with three single pigs. I wouldn't chance it, especially as you have a bonded pair already that are settled.

I have a single pig at the moment, he lives next door to two of mine and is happy like that. I am considering getting him neutered in the spring to live with 2 of my sows.

Hope Sophie is ok,

Louise

Yes, we are looking into why Soph fitted - i think it is epilepsy ( i am a doctor ) - no sign of mites at all.

We dont want to risk stressing Soph again and neither me or my mum really have the room for two cages (Archie was an extra we gained when we bought Soph - she was pregnant and we didnt realise), so i was really hoping he could go with my boys

its rare - i can't get my piggie paired with one male let alone two. I think they have to be together from birth or something, even then they have fights and stuff! boyss... rolleyes

I don't think 3 boys will work. If two boys are together comfortably its not really a good idea to try and introduce another.

As for the fitting, introducing a boy with two girls is mildly stressful, but done in the right way, on neutral territory over a number of days should be fine. I really don't think introducing him to your girls is causing the fitting. I think she probably has some kind of neurological condition, whether the male is with her or not she will fit.
