Just back from the animal's refuge and my mum and I held a couple of guinea pigs. There was 13 in total in different cages but the two they recommended for me were called Max & Paddy. They are both boys, one is 2 yrs old and neutered and the other one is 8 weeks old and getting neutered on Monday.

They have been living together for a while now and apparently there have been no problems. Max the older one has been used for educational visits to schools and they say he is the tamest and most friendly guinea pig they have ever had in the refuge. There were other pairs both male and female but these two seemed the most suitable.

Do you think they would make a couple of good pets for me as a first timer? I do have the chance to go to a local house to have a look at some more, I will hopefully get to go this week sometime. Cheers.

Sounds good. However if Max and Paddy are to live together there is no need for Paddy to be neutered. An older boar and a young boar works.

Good luck! :)
