I suspect I might be getting through a bit of critical care in the coming weeks, and my vet actually said she felt bad adding a bag to my bill because she knows I can get it cheaper online!
Have I mentioned recently how great my vet is?
Amway I was happy to take the bag because I need it asap, but I plan to stock up a bit too.

So suggested sources would be much appreciated.
Also can anyone give me an idea roughly what sort of best before dates they usually have.
The bag I got today has a bb date of 09/17 which doesn't seem that long, but maybe this is standard due to the vitamin content?

If I desperately need it then I go to Amazon. But most pet websites sell it too.

Most packets tend to be out of date in a few months, I don't think I have had anything more than a year.

I wonder whether it's due to the time getting it from the US, or because of the vitamin content.

Someone on Guinea Lynx suggested year ago to keep it in the freezer and only get out what you need. Apparently it prolongs the vitamin life. Dunno if that's true but I tend to do it anyway, at least I remember where it is then!

@Swissgreys

I order mine from vet uk and banana and apple from amazon, dates on these are 2019.Hope you do not need it soon.i keep two packets in as ive alot of cavies.

The dark blue and white packet of supreme science recovery plus is for piggies and has vit c but the pale blue and white supreme science recovery doesn't.

I buy fine grind critical care at about £13 each, just bought 2 last week and dates are April 2018. I'm sure it was Viovet but I done a Viovet, hyperdrug, hay experts and and hay for pets order in the one week so I could be lying!

I also have Emeraid from hyperdrug, think it was about £15 and they love it. It's high in calories but doesn't have a long shelf life and smells a bit funky!

Have never tried the apple and banana critical care, may get some on Amazon next day delivery for fudge for after this op. Can you get it in fine grind? The normal stuff does my head in, nothing more fustrating than a choking feeding syringe!

Do you have a link to that Adelle? - Can't find it anywhere :(

I actually came across it on a Swiss veterinary site about a month ago. I wasn't looking for it...I was following some leads on Harlan Teklad but they had stopped suppliying that.

If I get some time tomorrow I will see if I can happen across it again, I can't promise it's cheaper than the critical care you have already found but wort a look just in case.

I did not forget about this but sadly after looking for 3 hours I was unable to find where I had stumbled on it :(

No problem and thanks so much for trying.
I found this place, and have placed an order, so we shall see what happens.
Fellnasen-Shop

They actually have a huge range of recovery foods, which is good.

In addition to CC they also stock this, which looks interesting.
I have ordered a small bag to see what it is like.
Steppis Päppi Päppelbrei Swiss Edition 80g

@Wiebke (and any other German speakers) I would be interested to know what you think of the Brei described above.

The Brei (porridge) sounds very good! it is absolutely grain, sugar, fruit, additives and alfalfa-free and pretty much just hay based. You have to see how easy it is to syringe (if necessary, cut off the tip of your syringe just below where it narrows so it still holds the plunger in, including the protruding tip of the plunger).

Agree with Wiebke, the porridge looks very yummy for a poorly piggy, I do wonder how well it will go through a syringe however.

We have some "easier" syringes in our home from numerous bottles of kids medicine ( I never throw away the syringes, I wash them out and keep). The nurofen ones in particular have a nice wide hole and all the ml marked out clearly on the side.

Tonto (the boss rat) was sat on my shoulder while browsing that site and I am sure he was eying up the parsnip cubes and pea flakes.
