hi, i’m looking for some advice and i’m not sure if this is the right place on the site to ask it but idk. recently, in the last couple of days, one of my guinea pigs died. it was very hard as i’ve had them for a long time and am very attached but she was getting older and frailer and so was not a complete surprise. i don’t want my other guinea pig to have to live on her own, and she deserves a good companion to live with, but it’s not practical for me right now to adopt another guinea pig. i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for charities or places that will take care of my guinea pig and try to find her a new home. any advice would be appreciated, thanks

Aww, where In England are you? If I had room I’d have her, I’ve 9 in total and two rats, hope you find the perfect home for her

I am so sorry for your loss.
Eventually most of us will get to the place where we don't want to continue keeping piggies, and it is lovely of you to put her needs first.

Depending on where you are located, one of our approved rescues would be the best bet.
They all have the absolute highest standards, and will make sure she goes to a properly checked home as part of a pair/group.
Can you give us a rough idea of your location, then we could be a bit more specific.

I’m so very sorry for your loss. You are so kind letting your piggy go to find their forever home with new friends 😍. I hope a rescue near you (or a forum member) can take her in. Good luck.

Being prepared to put your piggy’s need for a companion when you so obviously love her is so kind.
Is she also an old lady?

So sorry for your loss.
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.

thank you, i’m in west yorkshire in england, is there a specific thread about approved rescues on the forum?

Look at the green bar at the top. These are approved rescues. Even if they are full at the moment you should be able to get some good advice or other phone numbers from them. I actually found out about a local rescue near me when I was looking for a piggy from my vet, as some of the nurses volunteer there. It'd been around for years but I'd never heard of it! If you have a vet you use regularly you could try phoning and asking them.
If you have a lone female she should hopefully not have too long to wait as they can be paired up more easily than the single boys. Good luck and let us know how you get on. Love to your girl, and I'm very sorry for your loss x

she is about 4 and a half so definitely approaching the older end, thank you so much

i believe Milhaven guinea pig rescue is on the recommended rescue list that is near you.maybe send them an email.I'm very sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss :(

I was going to suggest Milhaven rescue. We’re currently in touch with them about finding a friend for our neutered boar Perry. He’s just over 4 years old and lost his 6 year old wife-pig a month ago :(

We’re actually looking for a single sow, close to his age would be our preferred so I’d love to hear more about your girl as we might be an option for you to consider? :)

If you want, I can keep you updated on our situation? We were hoping to take him to Milhaven today actually but haven’t heard back in time so I’m not sure when they’ll offer next.

If you end up taking her to Milhaven then who knows, it may be Perry she meets at some stage?!

Let me know if you want anymore info from us anyway :)
