Hi. I have 5 sows and after a surprise pet shop pregnancy we now have 7 sows. The mum and babies are in their own place but the mum goes out to play with her previous cage mates every day to keep the bond going. I would love to keep both babies but I know that the reality is that we won't have the time, so we will probably have to have one adopted. I am trying to work out who would be best for the group as a whole. One is more independent, robust and sociable the other was the weaker one, more skittish and loves her mum. Any ideas from anybody with previous experience of bonding please? Or should I just keep them all? Thanks.

@Wiebke any advice on this?

Would it be really difficult to keep both? Do you have the space?

I was going to say the same as PennyLane. If you feel you can only keep one, then adopt them out as a pair. Why do you feel the extra one would make more work? If you think you don’t have the time for the one, then I don’t see how you’d have time for the one you’d be keeping. The extra time would be for nail cutting (not that often anyway), health check and maybe lap time. But it wouldn’t make up to an hour I reckon.

If you have space I’d keep them all. Are you planning to put them all together in one cage? If the space is the problem, you could split them and have two groups?...Just an idea.

I think your final sentence says it all. You clearly and understandably want to keep them all lol. If keeping them all is a possibility, then keep them.... I'd go as far as to say that if you've a male, you could get him neutered and after his 6 week post op wait, he could go in with the girls too. (only one male though). I know what I would do.... Lol

I would keep them both provided they are definitely females. I would always be wondering about the adopted piggie and one extra piggie will not make any extra work really x

I think we will be keeping the two of them after all. I must be mad! lol. They are just both so cute. The mum and one of the girls from the other group have started fighting just lately, so I will probably have 2 c&c cages. I've given up the dining room and popped the table in the kitchen, so there will be lots of space.
